The Passion to be Re-Released Easter 2005
Posting this from BOM to give you guys a chance to respond as well:
Newmarket plans to re-release Gibson pic on Easter
According to the reel, Newmarket plans to return to the well to re-releasere-release Mel GibsonMel Gibson's crucifixion depiction this coming Easter, April 15.
---
But a re-release would make sense, as many of the churchgoers who turned out in 2003 and propelled box office to $370 million in the U.S. would likely organize again to fill shows.
Another possible wrinkle, however, turns on whether the pic gets any Oscar noms, which may lead to reissuing the film earlier in 2005.
But either way, the pic could become something of an annual Easter tradition given the religious significance some congregations have placed on it.

Considering that the churches will organize again for this, it could earn quite a bit.
They do this for over a decade, who knows, it might beat Titanic.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Now it'll probably outgross ROTK. And if they keep releasing it every Easter, who knows how much more it'll gross? What if it overtakes Star Wars in 15 years?
:x :x :x

I don't understand why everyone is overreacting.
First of all, a lot can happen between now and Easter, and this is absolutely no guarantee that the re-release will happen.
Second, even if it is re-released, it will be for only a brief period, possibly a week.
Thirdly, since its already available on DVD, the majority will pass on it.
Fourth, ROTK has great re-release potential as well. Lest anyone should forget that, expect all LOTR films to have re-releases, only not anytime soon since they have been so ubiquitous over three years.

I expect DVD to impact LOTR more then The Passion. The reason is that The Passion has a core group of churchgoers that can organize every year. Does anyone doubt that they can pull two million of them every year? That would be over $10m at the BO every year, something that might really be possible. Give it a couple decades it could outgross Titanic IMO.
With DVD some fans will see it, but how much did trilogy Tuesday make? A re-release requires a marketing campaign to let people know about it. Any other films couldn't get enough interest in a re-release to pay for it any more often then once in 5 years (at most). But for The Passion they have the free marketing provided by churches; the same free marketing they got in the initial release. There is no reason they can't successfully re-release it every year.

It didn't do that good in rentals on DVD. Everyone just straight out bought it or left it. I don't think this will effect box office too much. If they released this movie like 5 or 10 years from now on Easter, it could make some money.

really the only people that would see this would be the huge church groups or a few people that never saw it or bought it or rented it....
More than likely all the churches already own the dvd and have a screening planned in thier gym or something viewing the dvd for FREE instead of having to pay again.
They could realease this every year and I dont see it making more than 1-2 million each time slowly getting lower and lower..dvd owns this movie now
