Furiosa did 3.5 on its way to 26m, is this really going to hold that much better?

Maybe thats the projected weekend?

Ballerina lands right in the boring zone. Not a success, but also not a big enough bomb for a WWW thread. It'll just be one of those movies where people are like "ohhh yeah that was a thing."

Yeah I saw in a tweet that's more like the weekend - zwacks was right about its midnight.

Will it even be #1 this weekend? Lilo isn't far behind on Friday numbers and Ballerina's was inflated due to previews being included.

Coming off Wick 3 and 4, yeah Ballerina's weekend is not looking impressive.
But it seems pretty well received and should be looking to have some good summer legs too.
If this can end up around 90m, which is what Wick 2 and also Fall Guy did, I consider that a serviceable gross.

I want numbers for Dangerous Animals damnit! :P Obviously, it did not do well, but I still want to know what it made.

$1,533,333 for Dangerous Animals. Sad.

From Deadline:

Quote:
Dangerous Animals (IFC) 1,636 theaters, Fri $760K Sat $463K Sun $310K, 3-day $1.53M/Wk 1

Very fun Australian horror movie with a new spin on the shark genre which played in Director’s Fortnight at Cannes. It’s 85% with critics, and 71% with the Rotten Tomatoes audience score. B CinemaScore, which is high for a genre pic. But there’s a lot of R-rated stuff out there, and this one got buried at No. 11. Close to half the audience was 18-34. Best business was the East, West and South with LA’s AMC Grove the best grossing location with close to $10k.

It's not getting anywhere near $90m

Yeah true, it's weekend drops are not good actually.

I read that they are/were also developing a spinoff with Donnie Yen's character ... but why wasn't that the first idea? He was the best part of Chapter Four and I definitely think more people would have been into continuing his story over watching a new character.

Nah, I'd rather have Ana actually over a Commie-lover. But my top choice would be no spinoffs.

Yeah, I don't see the appeal for a Caine spinoff at all, like he was good in 4 but I actually don't see any other character having mass appeal. Ballerina is good though, and I think they made the right decision to spin it off this way and in terms of performance we're seeing the best case play out, I don't think anything else is going to do better. I am happy to see Rina Sawayama reprise her role as Akira though, just can't see how a Caine film is going to be any good.
Though I thought the same of Ballerina and that surprised, so maybe, who knows.

I think the studio screwed the pooch by anouncing John Wick 5. Would have helped Ballerina a little if audiences didnt know they were getting another John Wick film.

Flop. Bad casting just like Furiosa. Why they keep casting these dainty petite women as action heroines is beyond me. I feel like you need to have a certain gravitas (Angelina who has the eyes of a psycho killer) or physical stature (Sigourney who is 6 foot and just comes across like a bad ass) to pull it off as a woman.

I mean, obviously. I've been saying this for years. I really do not know why studio execs cannot see this. It boggles the mind. Are they just idiots? or are they too far inside the woke left they are blind to reality?

A Pom Klementieff Paris spinoff in the French language and made by, say, Luc Besson could be fucking awesome, however.

De Armas is really excellent in this. I don't think the casting hurts this.

Maybe the concept then.

But Lucy showed that there's a potential for them to do well, so I'm not sure what it is or takes for a film like this to be a hit.

Generally I wasn't excited at all just to hear about any spin-off from Wick.

Also, I feel the fact the franchise went to TV with The Continental didn't help it either.
I'm personally still a bit interested to check it out though.

I think they were already starting on the backfoot with a Wick spinoff being a cash grab and looking like a normal action movie with his name attached, then female action movies haven't really done well for a while.

This bombed for the same reason Furiosa bombed. People only are interested in these franchises WITH the main male character, not some random female replacement, however good both of these films actually may be.

I think Furiosa's Fury Road type action scenes should've made it more appealing than this.

Agreed.

Piggybacking isn't a good look.

Agree with Shack that Furiosa had a lot more going for it and thus feels a tier above Ballerina in terms of bombing. There's a John Wick ripoff every couple months while there's only one George Miller.
