Looks like Furiosa and Garfield should be in a photo finish.

I dont see Garfield open that high. No sign at all of it breaking out at this point. Probably something like 30/40 is more likely. Furiosa on the other hand looks good to me. Should have a good OW.

Well Furiosa seems to have all the elements to succeed to me, an auteur/blockbuster combo director who's cool to like on twitter, a top under 30 actress, good reviews, and the sweet spot of recognizable IP but not superhero. If it doesn't succeed then I'm not sure what blockbusters people want.

I am feeling good about 50m+ over 4 days. more precise number I will provide early next week. It all depends on final week surge. Apes had terrific finish that took OW at least 10m above where I saw week before release. Let us hope Furiosa does something similar.

Furiosa really should be the new Dune / Oppenheimer but doesn't seem to have the hype for some reason. Hopefully at least $50M+ 3 day.

If Garfield underperforms then that will be proof America is racist against cats.

I suspect Garfield to win in the end, but on opening probably Furiosa, though I do feel an underperformance. It's plastered all around town but it looks like a Chris Hemsworth movie, lol.

I knew it. Fury Road was largely about Furiosa and we already know her backstory and how her story ends. No suspense. And the trailers just looked like Fury Road 2.0 with no standout money shot. I'm thee biggest fan of Fury Road but I'm not terribly excited about Furiosa and have no plans to see it just yet, there's probably many others in the same boat. It's also been 9 years since the first one... even for a sequel to a really well-received film that's pushing it.

Mad Max 2 coming out in 2017 or 2018 is a breakout sequel for sure 80m+.

Charlie has $4M previews for Furiosa and $2.5M for Garfield.

Quite a huge month May has been! 1 $35M+ 3day weekend so maybe we can pull another 1 this weekend... :sweat:

Both should be over/under 40m. Will be very close for number 1.
