Is there buzz for this one? Can't tell.

The marco polo trailer is so embarassing but at the same time seems like something that young folk would be in to. So $10M opening maybe? Hopefully Wonka is still above that.

This is one of those movies that practically feels conceived with the trailer in mind

I weirdly haven't seen the Night Swim trailer in theaters in a while - Imaginary is the horror trailer I keep getting, even though it doesn't open for over two months. But these "first weekend of January" horror flicks almost never fail, and we haven't had a horror movie since Thanksgiving, so it should at least get to the $10-12M range I'm guessing before quickly falling off.

With that being the only new movie, I'm guessing the holdovers will all have strong holds, save Aquaman (should be fun to see how quickly it plummets without the holiday bump) and possibly Color Purple if it doesn't slow its drops.

I never liked that trailer. And after getting it with pretty much every damn movie I grew to hate it. That being said, since I'm a horror fan, I'm interested. I just don't think there's any way it turns out good. It should definitely open with double digits. Probably not enough to be #1.

Night Swim has to depend on good walkups to hit the numbers predicted here. So far meh presales.

This weekend reminds me of the first weekend of January 2020. The Grudge reboot was the sole opener there. That debuted with 11.4 Million despite having beyond horrible reviews. Night Swim doesn't have the brand awareness that The Grudge had, but even if reviews aren't great, I'm sure they will be much better than they were for The Grudge. It will likely land in that 11-12 Million area.

If Night Swim underperforms I'm kinda hoping Anyone But You comes in ahead of it and Aquaman and somehow jumps into the top 3. That'd be a fun little surprise to kick off the year.

walks were quite good today. M3gan comps put the previews at 1.55m. I think it can hit low teens OW.

Aquaman has had decent dailies. If it has standard increases for this weekend, it will have a sub 40% drop.

MTC will skew higher due to more PLF shows. It makes sense it finished slightly lower. Still not bad considering it had almost no sales until couple of days ago.
