I have a hard time seeing this get past Quantumania ($215M) and Freddy looks like it could do $160M+ so this club won't be that hard to happen at this point. Really best scenario is for it to get past Eternals' $164,870,234.

Going under $134,806,913 (all time worst MCU from 2008's Incredible Hulk) would be an utter disaster.

Too late to start this. This is locked at this point. Freddys was WAY ahead of Marvels presales at similar point. Plus it was doing well everywhere while Marvels has been absolute trash minus AMC where is boosted due to A-List subscribers.

The big problem the MCU has right now is, as far as I'm aware, is that it doesn't have a clear connecting story now. There's no real need to see them ASAP in theaters. And many families and casual fans are probably fine waiting to see them at some point on Disney+.

All the recent films feel, and are I think, largely standalone. I don't know where anything is going besides eventually getting to Kang again somehow in the next Avengers. And then there's the legal mess with Majors. It also doesn't help that he seemed far from a big threat in Ant-Man 3. Most individual Avengers could have handled the Kang in that movie.

Having the big bad (Thanos) show up in the end credits of some of the phase 1, 2, and 3 movies helped convince the general public that the movies all lead to defeating Thanos in one Avengers movie. Thanks to Jonathon Majors, Marvel Studios is too cowardly to showcase the next big bad in the same way for the phase 4 (and possibly phase 5) movies. But Jonathan Majors isn't the sole reason why the MCU isn't as popular as it was in 2018-2019. I think some of the reaction to the Disney+ shows also contributed. So this club is easy to join.
Opening weekend the Marvels should be less than Freddy's easy based on reports of presales on par with The Flash. However Freddy's is still a horror movie so I don't think the legs would be great. The Marvels will likely have better legs than Freddy's but it won't be enough to overcome opening weekend gap of around $20 million.

presales are not on par with Flash. It well below Flash as well. Of course Flash had terrible finish as well. so far no sign of any life from marvels.

I dont see Marvels Opening week hitting Freddy's OW. Forget about OW itself !!! Its unbelievable what is happening to this movie. At last MCU is on real downward spiral. Even Ant 3 was not this bad.

They showed one final trailer amd the first thirty seconds are nothing but Endgame footage.

They hid Kamala and only show her for two seconds. Holy shit this screams FULL BLOWN PANIC MODE

Other recent Marvel movies were helped by goodwill from previous installments. No one likes the first Captain Marvel, there are no fans of that film to keep this film from collapsing under all the bad Marvel buzz

I feel like Thanos kept snapped his fingers and made Marvel's box office go away. :funny:

Have we seen a $400M+ predecessor ever challenge a lower gross with its follow up? Alice 2 is the only thing I can think of that comes close to this scale. That made $77M/$299.5M worldwide off of a $170M budget.

Marvel's is $275M budget $105M more than Alice 2 so even Alice won't look as bad as Marvel if it just passes or misses $100M.

Too many mistakes made for this film and it's marketing.

Firstly, the jokey nonsense is what most fans hate. Then you have a TV character taking centre stage. Let's face it - after the 1st couple of episodes Ms Marvel is a mediocre show at best, cringe at worst (the villains and CGI). Ms Marvel herself is fine but you can't centre a marketing campaign around her.

They probably should have gone the more serious route with this marketing earlier. Though leave out the ridiculous SLJ black girl line at the end. It's not a Fury line.

They also got the most forgettable character from Wandavision. There just wasn't a strong enough anchor for this.

You just know they are going to blame the strike for it flopping but stars promoting a movie is only effective when you have "stars" promoting the movie. Sam and Brie at best but Sam probably didn't do himself any favors with Secret Invasion either.
