I really think you over estimate Nolan's impact. For his own movies I think it's fine to make decisions but he does not run WB

Lol at Nolan's comments.

I'm honestly really shocked they were able to do this without giving so many people a head's up. I think more and more this is gonna backfire but Disney+ is having a press conference on Thursday so let's see if they will follow suit...

Nolan hasn't released a good movie in nearly a decade. Perhaps he should focus on that first.

Well, there's now this: https://deadline.com/2020/12/warnermedi ... 234651283/

Legendary is considering legal action against Warner regarding their films as they're the primary financer.

I want this WB/HBOMax shit to go nuclear :D because it's 2020.
I want all the Guilds & even the Agents to BOYCOTT Warner Bros. Studio. Let's have fun with this, Hollywood!

I don't think Disney can do the premiere access thing with anything other than their MCU films... it'll be interesting...

WW1984 is looking to have at least decent reviews. Moving it from November 2019 was such a collossal fail lol it would've crushed.

They won't. Disney is not in the same situation with their streaming service as WB. They are far in a better place. They're about to top 100m subs in the new year.

That's also the key reason for WB to take this decision.

Yeah, Disney doing this makes no sense but then again it seems weird that they threw away Soul.

Ahh but Wall Street's appetite is never satisfied. When they hit 100m subs...the next week investors will want 110m, then 120m. Disney may look long and hard at their MCU new releases and at least think about a day one release across both streaming and theatrical channels. Of course with the recent vaccine news, that pressure could lessen as we get deeper into 2021.

Agreed with lilmac investors will always want more. Also I feel Disney throwing in high profile movies is way worse than WB at this point, they haven't experimented with theatrical release during pandemic on one of their high profile movies.

So this basically means Dune will be a one-off. No way it makes enough money to justify another $180M part 2 and part 3 and so on.

Why has Hollywood so spectacularly destroyed my two favourite fantasy/sci fi book series when they had a perfect cast and production values? First The Golden Compass when New Line forced them to remove all references to the church and re-edited the film, deleting the original ending, and now with Dune.

Or it could be the opposite. Dune might have done well in its original date, but it had just as good a chance of underwhelming. Would a $150M gross have been enough to justify part two? But, if HBO Max sees a huge surge in subs next October then it might paint a more valuable picture of the franchise.

I think Dune would have grossed $200M+ and got the sequel anyways, but I also think it could be the biggest benefactor of the HBO Max move.

I’ve been talking shit all day, but one thing that was not Wonder Woman’s fault was the mediocre video quality. It was technically in 4K HDR, but a far cry from the crisp pictures you get on Netflix and Disney. I’m definitely gonna have to see Dune in theaters now.

I saw it in theaters. 8K video quality would not have saved this movie.

I'd rather see a film like Dune in the theatre. That's what it is made for.

It should be fine in regards to a sequel. WB/HBO need content so they'll complete this. Especially as they are spinning off a TV show as well.

To be honest, the Dune series is so dense that a Game of Thrones style HBO series would probably make more sense for an adaptation of the whole thing.

I agree from the trailer it looks like there is too much data in the movie which might not fit well in a movie.

Godzilla vs Kong now releasing on March 26 on HBO Max/theaters. Weird they were able to push it up.

Think it's been done since last year and there isn't much potential left with this franchise after the misstep of King of Monsters.

I think they realize waiting until May is pretty much pointless for the U.S. release.

The vaccine distribution rollout, and basically the entire response to COVID in the U.S. is basically just beginning next week. Almost nothing has been done all this time, and will probably take at least 6 months starting from next week to even get on a productive path.

I like the move up to March. Means there is a good chance we'll get to see it in theatres here.

Did they ever release a trailer for this?

If it’s a March release they had better release the trailer soon. A recent HBO Max commercial listed all the movies getting a simultaneous theatrical and streaming release. The list included Matrix 4. I might be missing something but I didn’t think Dune and Matrix were confirmed as going to HBO Max.

Yes Dune and Matrix were confirmed, however Denis V has been vocal about getting that changed.
