Re: COVID-19 and box office
Germany and France join Italy as major European markets where movie theaters have to shut down (again)...

Open up the country. If you're sick/fearful, then stay away from restaurants, theaters, etc., just like you would if you had the flu or any other illness. Responsibility doesn't fall with the government or a political party - it starts with the individual.

That's true if it only affects the individual. It's the difference between getting drunk and driving drunk though. One of those puts other people in considerably more harm than the other.

The odds of a person who feels completely fine somehow spreading it to someone who is taking all necessary steps to protect themselves is near zero. The spread is among people who don’t care about the virus. I know tons of people still in isolation and none of them have gotten it.

I don’t think he’s even a Guarantee he gets 200 electoral votes at this point. The world news outlook has some weirdly biased electoral maps. I just don’t see him in any scenario where things go all right and he goes higher than 256. PA could be the biggest upset again where all the major populated areas easily pick Biden and he still loses.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
Lol, that's not the current map at all, and it doesn't help that Wisconsin, PA, Ohio, and other battleground states that are leaning Biden already are having record high cases this week. Based on conservative polls on reliable maps Biden is projected to get at least get 290 votes.
Though I can see this week being a disaster, on Election Day it'll probably have Biden going closer to 350+ and as more in person votes come in it will come back down to earth, and when he wins Trump will go into batshit conspiracy mode!

Re: COVID-19 and box office
I prefer 538, 89% of all outcomes point to a Biden victory. It's a foregone conclusion Biden will win the popular vote. The issue is there is not one current map. I doesn't make sense to take one, much more reliable to go with the average. Of course Trump can still win, but it's definitely not a "he's on the verge" category. Plus people are so scared to say anything after 2016.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
Went to the theater tonight for the first time January, felt so good to be back and was pleasantly surprised at how busy it was. Watched HALLOWEEN (1978) with some friends and there were probably another 20 people in the theater, all spread out obviously.
Whenever things do normalize, I may go every weekend for a bit to give them some business. Was so good to see a movie on the big screen again.

There are responsible ways to reopen and bridge the gap to widespread vaccine distribution. Trump's ratings with Covid would no doubt be higher if he was a capable messenger; it is shocking how much eh has regressed skill wise as a campaigner in recent months, feels like he isn't reading the room at all and always gets defensive instead.

Check out the ones that actually got something right like Trafalgar and Rasmussen, state by state. There's no way Biden wins - I see that even from Russia.

Apologies if I sound too harsh but there is a separate Politics forum to discuss about elections. There are some really great discussions there. Hope you guys can continue this conversation there.

Re: COVID-19 and box office
On a non-political note, why are movies like Alita: Battle Angel being rereleased? Everyone had a chance to see that when there wasn’t a plague and most chose not to. The 2000s are the earliest they should go back, aiming for cult hits that most people haven’t seen but are interested in. Like how several KJers had the original Japanese Ringu on their list of films to watch this year. Hocus Pocus was a great choice but there were so many others to pick from. How expensive is to rent the rights to these older movies?

Sony will likely be the #1 studio for 2020. Last time they were atop the annual studio boxoffice leaderboard was 2006. https://m.the-numbers.com/market/2006/summary

Re: COVID-19 and box office
So now that we know the Pfizer vaccine works, what is the path to approval? And what’s the difference between emergency authorization, which is what they project happening in a couple weeks, and being approved? How does it move from emergency authorization to approval?
