Weren't we more prepared and didn't we go into lockdown much faster? Most of the country is in lockdown already and the parts that aren't will be soon.

I'm not saying it won't take 2 months or more, but there's no need to be pessimistic. The spread should slow significantly following the lockdown, and after 2-3 weeks, anyone infected should be done with the incubation period and know to stay home. Everyone not infected won't have much reason to stay home after that.

Zwackerm it doesn't work like that. It's been two months here and Singapore went into DORSCON Orange (Red being next and final) way before any country and the numbers are still increasing. Right now the cases here are more imported and US has much bigger traveling crowd than Singapore. I think June is where US can expect for things to calm down.

We’re approaching it in all but name here in CT. Pretty much everything but grocery stores, gas stations and take out closes as of 8:00 pm tonight. Even the parks are closed.

Closing at 8pm is not at all a lockdown. My office friends in Italy have been scheduled to go out grocery shopping and can't break that. You can easily get sick before 8pm, it's not like the virus only spreeads at night.

Now I'm not saying US can go in a total lockdown but the general people should be made aware with some changes that impact them without creating panic. The response from US seems slightly weak in comparison.

They’re closing indefinitely as of 8:00 pm tonight. I should have been more specific. They’re not reopening for weeks or months.

Not martial law level lockdown, but I would call state of emergency, everything closed effectively lockdown.

Probably not in your state, but some state governments have ordered restaurants, gyms, parks, movie theaters, etc. to close. But I would not call it a lockdown though. Lockdown is when you are not allowed to leave your place.

More prepared? No. Certainly not with the testing mess.

The virus can spread from people without symptoms. So people can think they are not infected, when they really are, and spread it.

The Bay Area has a shelter in place order. People are only supposed to go out for exercise, groceries and medicine. New York City is considering it, saying to be prepared for it and will probably announce it soon. As other areas see a spike in cases I expect more of the country to go into lockdown.

Yeah but I still see Sony or Universal winning this year over Disney because most movies will become bigger than usual once theaters become normal.

It really all comes down to what is released at all this year.

WW, Bond, Marvel film A, B or C + Disney film 1, 2, 3 all have a shot at passing Bad Boys 3. But time will tell.

I mean the numbers they released about their "good" estimates (read as we do everything right,no mistakes) is to have 100k-200k deaths? No way in hell we're getting over this until fall at the earliest and even then. We have no idea how this will behave

The thing is that the virus moves so fast that the apex can come quickly. Likely before May in NYC, and summer elsewhere. However, starting back up risks another wave. That’s what happened with the Spanish flu. So they may need to wait until cases drop close to zero, and even then, they may need to shut down again if there’s another wave.

Cases are supposed to peak by May, I doubt it will take all year after that to be able to reopen theaters. The exponentialness is gonna move things along.

Starting back up does risk another wave, but if we reach zero new cases and wait a couple weeks before lifting 6 foot distancing, odds of another outbreak would be low because we would know who had it hopefully and they’d know to keep isolating.
