Re: Weekend Estimates
Frozen at $738.6m WW. Will probably hit a billion sometime next week and play well through both Christmas and New Years.
Knives Out doing well is a huge win for Rian Johnson. If he could make another mainstream and critical hit he'll likely (and ironically because of TLJ backlash) become a draw.
December looks like it'll be solid. Bombshell and Richard Jewell could potentially be mid-sized hits and I think Little Women is gonna be huge. If Jumanji does at least 250m domestic and Star Wars does 575m+ and everything else does decent I'll be satisfied.

Magnus wrote: Unless "huge" for Little Women is like 75m, Little Women will not be huge. You said the same thing about KO and it ended up doing better than expected. Reviews are very strong for LW. Bombshell will live up to its title and Cats will be modest at best. We'll see what tracking is like for the next couple of weeks but I see it grossing 100m+.

Re: Weekend Estimates
I think $75m would be huge for Little Women. I really cant see it breaking out much more than that.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Cats will gross 100m easy. People love musicals at Christmas. I think how weird cats is will actually increase curiosity and interest.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Yeah - if Cats didnt look weird it probably would have done $200m but it should at least get over $100m. I think people will give it a shot.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Little Women is going to max out its potential, whatever that is. I could definitely see 100m if it gets serious Oscar buzz.

Re: Weekend Estimates
I will be shocked if Little Women doesn't at least come close to 100 Million. I think it's getting there.

Re: Weekend Estimates
I don't see little Women doing that well, it doesn't look much better than The Favourite appeal wise, and has a rough release date, and I think Bombshell will steal it's thunder and do 100+ plus. I think anything over 50 million for it would be great though.

Re: Weekend Estimates
It's tough as there will be a lot of options for women. Frozen will be dwindling, but you'll have Rey from SW, Bombshell which is a modern Little Women with a high profile cast and hot topic, and if Cats does better as well, it's more of a first come issue not the actual release date, rather another adaptation of a classic women empowerment story, that while it looks good, it's not going to bring in cross demographics. Meryl is the only reason I think it'll do over 55 million. It has too strict an audience IMO. I don't see a double digit opening.

Awards buzz. The Favourite looked really offbeat so I think that's kind of a bad comparison. I wonder why Disney is estimating Frozen II to drop 42% on Sunday. Moana dropped 37%, Ralph Breaks The Internet did 37% as well. Last year's The Grinch fell 38%. Should easily have a sub 40% drop.

And old men will go with their wives. And gays of course .

Re: Weekend Estimates
It'll be interesting, but I think if Bombshell does kind of what Sisters did against TFA, I think 100+ is good for it even off a 18 million opening. 25 years ago, Little Women came out around the same time and grossed 50 million, so the story has its fans. It's just a very good Christmas Season.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Bombshell seems like the harder sell tbh. Something like 60m would be very good.

Re: Weekend Estimates
Little Women is Mary Poppins or Annie without the appeal to young children. I am thinking its gross will be around the neighborhood of A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, maybe a little more because of the holidays.
