Thursday previews/early Friday
Call of the Wild - 1m
Don't imagine this is frontloaded so that's not bad. Although with that high budget it'll still probably lose money.
The Boy 2 - 375k

Re: Thursday previews
Quite nice for Call of the Wild. Could do over 20 Million. But the budget is definitely going to make it difficult to even break even.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
Sonic will end up mid 20s for the weekend but yeah seems more frontloaded than expected.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
Yeah not great for Sonic, but it should bounce back on Saturday like the family movie it is. I would say that’s pretty good for Call if I hadn’t seen the budget.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
I agree that it will still do more than Call but mid 20's from a 50m opening (even if inflated) seems a little excessive. And Call is not exactly a kids movie.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
That's honestly the most I can see a movie like Call of the Wild making. That budget is ludicrous but it'll be a good addition on Disney+.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
Charlie at BOT is saying 8-8.5m true Friday for Call of the Wild, which means it'll probably beat Sonic for the weekend. Lol wtf!?

That would be pretty great for Call and I can see it having good legs as well.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
Yeah that’s a great opening. A shame it was one week after Sonic as it seems to have hurt that film a bit.
$100m isn’t out of the question.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
The huge drops from top to bottom make Sonic’s look a little bit better. Even 1917 and Parasite fell 50%.
$100M is probably out for Harley Quinn. Bad Boys should still be able to hang on for $200M.

Happy for Impractical Jokers. Like the show but didn’t realize there was a feature film.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
Damn a near high 20's opening for COW just seems so random and crazy IMO, but I guess it really found an audience with it being a big budget dog movie and starring Harrison Ford. It's too bad the budget is so huge though, because unless it really does well OS it's going to have a hard time breaking even. I mean it might honestly end up outgrossing BOP which would be even more insane than anything Sonic has done so far.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
I'm really not concerned for kids movies for sure because they will recover better than adult movies today and last Friday being helped by VD make the drops like bigger than usual.
And lol The Photograph is bleeding more than Fantasy Island

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
BOP won’t reach 90m and with coming theater losses even 85m might be difficult. The drop this weekend, without much competition, confirms how much the holiday weekend helped last week. It would have been down at least 56%, maybe 60% when you consider that Saturday also seemed to be inflated. It’s legs are standard for the genre, and there’s no sign that WOM is special. It’s consistent with the average to below average audience ratings for the genre.
It’s also a bit more evidence that blockbusters have big drops because of the type of movies they are, rather than because of the size of the opening. Small openings only really boost the multiplier if there’s great WOM and a lot of room to grow.
BB4L’s legs are the exception to the rule for the genre. But it’s at 96% audience on RT compared to 78% for BOP. Or looked at the other way, 4% negative vs 22% negative.

DL saying Sonic over COW https://deadline.com/2020/02/sonic-the- ... 202865381/Good Saturdays for both IMO, but that drop for BOP is pretty shitty and most likely hurts any chances of it reaching $100M.

Re: Thursday previews/early Friday
Deadline has been somehow bitter about Call of the Wild from the taglines (almost offensive) towards their claims yesterday till late evening "that Sonic was running way ahead of CotW even if others are saying they were close".
Great jump for Sonic. CotW will have better weekdays I believe and its a great start even at #2.
