Re: Joker Thursday - GOD DAMN
Gemini Man did 1.6 last night. Eh.
Joker doing over 50m this weekend would be incredible. In comparison BvS did 51.3m second weekend...
And yeah, there is no way this doesn't get some kind of second movie.

Maybe people just don't take to the clone storylines. Very early 2000's feel.

Addams Family should do 30m+ with that easily and 40m is on the table.

Re: Joker Thursday - GOD DAMN
Early look at PS shows joker looking at 20m+ friday. Charlie is saying even 22m is possible. So 70m+ 2nd weekend is happening!!!!

DC films inherently have more potential than Marvel films. Which just makes the last 7 years more mind numbing.

I guess the security concerns really did affect people and that the negative outcry towards the toxicity of Joker is actually helping increase interest. What kind of hold will it have next week after Trump endorses it (as a way to distract people from his eternally growing list of scandals)?

Re: Joker Thursday - GOD DAMN
There was nothing wrong with Affleck's Batman. Hell there is nothing wrong with any of the performances in the DCEU (Eisenberg aside, he was atrocious)
Had BVS not wasted Doomsday and killed off Cavill for JL, they would have been in a much better position moving forward.
And really 22 million? The first showings on the East Coast aren't even done yet.

Re: Joker Thursday - GOD DAMN
Just the early PS for friday and Charlie's update from comscore is pointing too crazy numbers. But it needs to continue to be on that pace to go that high. But 60m should happen.

DC films have also been traditionally more varied, and more willing to be daring and take risks versus Disney Marvel films. DC stumbled a bit for a few years, and while I still hate what happened with Snyder at WB, DC seems to be slowly getting back into a groove. WB and DC finally and wisely realized you don't need to copy Disney Marvel with all that connected universe stuff. WB and DC are going back to their old approach that worked. Simply focus on making stand-alone, good films and not focus on a connected universe.

Re: Joker Thursday - GOD DAMN
Its still too far fetched to say DCU has more potnetial, some of its heroes definitely do like anything related to Batman but Superman has had many incarnations and its appeal seems to be limited until a movie proves that wrong. DCU sure had much more known characters whose solo movies will do well now specially in this market because Marvel has increased the interest in superhero sub-genre. Its similar to The Hunger Games' run, it got the help because Twilight existed and YA audience shifted to the new franchise ofcourse it brought in new audience with its different world that Twilight couldn't bring in.
Plus nobody knew about Black Panther before and it did $700m once DCEU can get movies to do similar numbers I can agree on "more potential" but for now in this market $300m+ is not "as difficult" for known IP specially superheroes.
