The difference is crazy people see the declining to run ads for Unplanned as "RAWR WE'RE BEING SILENCED! RAWR!" and go and support the film for... reasons?, and regular people see the declining to run ads for Booksmart as "that sucks, that's a stupid decision" and aren't really inclined to see the film more than they were.

The reviews for Booksmart are outstanding. It's the kind of film that should do well in theory, but UA distributing doesn't inspire confidence.

It’s so difficult to sell a pure comedy these days. Someone is going to be offended no matter what and then someone will be offended by that person getting offended. It’s as much of a minefield as talking about politics.

Plus most blockbusters are funny these days so people can get their laughs from Marvel along with everything else.

I really hope Booksmart does well, saw it last Friday and loved it! Hate the notion that comedies aren’t doing well these days when they’re one of the best genres of film, thank god for Girls Trip or I’d be worried

I'll be surprised if Aladdin can even hit a $70m 3-day.

BO.com is predicting 75m over 4 days. That is around the final tracking that trades reported. Fandango ticket sales however are not bad. Wonder if reviews makes it front loaded.

What the heck happened on Tuesday? Wick only up 13.5%, Pokemon ~10%, Avengers down 10%. Was Monday inflated by anything?

Monday was 520 Day, which in China (and I assume for Chinks in the US too) is a "love day". But I don't think that would have much (if any) effect on the US box office.

Holiday in Canada. According one of the folks at BOT with access to comscore, Endgame was super strong and was actually no: 1 in canada (even over the weekend).

Should get near Solo #s but if reviews are positive it could swing it over $100M 3-day. Then again if it lands with a thud on rottentomatoes it reinforces the narrative this movie has had to deal with all along. This is the biggest moment for critics in a long time, maybe even more than Justice League.

<20%: $55M 3-day
50-70%: $75M
90%+: $90M

Looks like Disney dodged a bullet again. I knew this movie was gonna pull a Bohemian Rhapsody; mediocre reviews but a crowdpleaser.
