Post Which Superbad will do better?
So last night at Long Shot I saw the Good Boys trailer for the first time. Its trying a little too hard to be Superbad with younger boys, but overall looks fine. Then, right after, the Booksmart trailer came on. I had enjoyed this earlier when it was by itself, but its the same fucking trailer as Good Boys. I kinda soured on both seeing them back to back, but we've ended up with a Deep Impact/Armageddon situation of Superbads!

So which will do better? Usually the later film wins these showdowns, and Good Boys definitely has the better release date. Booksmart can use the goodwill of Ladybird to help draw people in, and its extra Woke since the lead character is also gay. So I think they'll open around the same but those late August legs will make the difference.

For now I'll predict:

Booksmart - $16M / $50M
Good Boys - $16M / $60M

Booksmart seems more "art house" thus it will probably gross less.

Everytime I see that booksmart trailer I just think...Trash

Goodboys will win because of the male viewer.

Silly question. Booksmart will do like 13 Million. Good Boys 100+. Both look awesome but I think Booksmart will be the better film. Good Boys is just more mainstream.

I want Good Boys 100+ to happen because it is in my draft game pick. The humor is not unlike Blockers, which had more star power. But the actors being so young is a selling point for Good Boys. I am thinking $60-70m right now.

With the buddy comedy angle and Olivia Wilde at the helm, Booksmart should be more mainstream and do better than The Edge of Seventeen.

Curious how audiences reacted to the movie trailers?

Olivia Wilde does not equal any significant box office and nothing about that film screams "mainstream".

Name recognition helps. Wilde's been doing press for this movie to compensate for UA's small scale marketing.
