Re: April 12-14 predictions
After has a big following online (30m views on the last trailer wtf) but with Aviron as a distrubutor it's probably not gonna do well. If a lot of these internet fans show up it could do decent though.
Little - 19 Hellboy - 17 Missing Link - 11 After - 9
Shazam! - 43% drop

Re: April 12-14 predictions
Shazam should repeat as number one. I don't see any of the new films opening over 20.

Shazam -49% Little - $29M Hellboy - $11M Missing Link - $9M
One would think Missing Link could at least match Kubo’s $12.6M. But there just seems to be so little buzz for it even among Laika fans.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
Typical April weekend coming up where openers fail to impress and holdovers will do well.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
I don't get the predictions for Little. I see a small $9m opening. Even less for After. I'll say around $5m. And then there's Hellboy, eh. I don't know but $16m doesn't sound too great but I think it will at least win the weekend in terms of openers. $10m for Missing Link.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
I am afraid Missing Link will get lost in the shuffle. The story and animation style are less than unique for a Laika production. With Shazam, Dumbo, Captain Marvel and Wonder Park in release, kids have had enough on the table.
Little should lead the openers when After could outperform modest expectations.
Little - $14.5m Hellboy - $11m After - $10m Missing Link - $7m

Re: April 12-14 predictions
My predictions were about $8m total for Missing Link in KC's game so I expect it to bomb with $3m-$4m opening.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
After seems to be selling well now that a couple theaters around me are selling tickets. With a big fanbase don't be surprised by 1m+ previews.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
I hope Little does well, the trailer is hilarious. Can’t wait to see it next week. The lack of comedies minus Shazam! should help at least

Re: April 12-14 predictions
I think the lack of straight-up comedies is why A Madea Family Funeral is doing well. Every week when I update the draft grosses, I am surprised at how it's reached $70m+. What Men Want hasn't done badly either. I'm not sure whether it's just a black thing, but I hope Flarsky (it'll always be Flarsky to me) can also tap into this comedy potential.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
Madea is its own brand, very different from What Men Want or any other comedies on the market. It's more like an old-fashioned sitcom, very family-centered, often preachy and with a well-meaning message.
This one is doing well because it's the last Madea outing. Fans see it to bid farewell to the series.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
The Madea series is so weird. So many ups and downs, with no consistency. This one will be the second highest-grossing entry in the series. It started with $50m, then up to $63m, then $90m (the franchise peak), then $53m, then $65m, then back to $52m, then $73m, then to a franchise low of $47m, and now we're at Madea Funeral which will make more than $73m to become #2 for the franchise behind A Madea Halloween. I think this series is actually more swayed by the marketplace than you give it credit for, i.hope. There's no consistency to the franchise whatsoever to put this latest one's performance down to goodwill.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
This one is #5 adjusted for inflation. The series peaked with the third entry Madea Goes to Jail ($113.8m). Then it hovered between $55m and $75m. This one will land on the high end of the range because it is advertised as the last entry.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
Hovering between $55m and $75m is not consistency. That's a $20m margin on a measly potential $75m. That's a huge difference.
That's like saying the Harry Potter's are consistent because they hovered between $330m and $500m. lol

Re: April 12-14 predictions
It's pretty consistent, IMO.
Madea's Witness Protection got summer weekdays helping its numbers.
Boo! was a horror spoof which gave it some novelty boost.

Holy shit Hellboy is sitting at 10% on RT. I really didn't think it would end up being that bad, but this is a disaster waiting to happen.

Re: April 12-14 predictions
Well people were already against it, getting this instead of the third Del Toro pic that Hellboy fans actually wanted.
It also only had one poorly received trailer. If there was anything good to show they would have done it by now.
I'm gonna lower my prediction to $4.5M.
