I'm not talking opening weekend. Only fools care about that. Its total will be big. Great for only his second feature. No difficult second album. Great stuff.

Oh, absolutely. Glad to see Hollywood still has some genuine talent in the ranks.

It needs to have strong talking points to leg out to over $200m.

For now, $54m/$181m

I think I was wrong. $200m+ is likely.

$95m/$243m

It's also getting a last minute IMAX release for a week, which is encouraging. Not sure what to make of these presales - can't say I expected anything like that.

100 MILLION?

Twilight Zone is gonna get nice viewership if that's the case. I know I'm gonna sub just for a bit so I can watch some of those episodes but 100 Million? I'd be surprised.

Fandango numbers are very unreliable. I don't buy those but this will open HUGE. $70m is the floor.

Presales suggested $100m+ but previews more like $50-$60m. Confusing. Will settle for somewhere in the middle.

No way $100m opening happens. You guys are again setting it up for disappointment.

BOM is predicting $51m for this with the potential of $60m. They are sometimes off but mostly not by 100%. US is exactly the type of movies that BOM is off on their predictions, its definitely getting past $60m but I am still unsure on $100m for this.

It's still somewhat early, so those numbers can definitely go up, but even if this movie only does $50-$60M OW that should still be considered a HUGE success IMO. I know its easy to get carried away with pre-sales, but this is why they aren't always reliable. There is so much hype around this flick, especially with Peele coming fresh off the success of Get Out, and that is no doubt driving those advance ticket sales.

Aren’t presales as a function of hype and anticipation apply here as for Endgame, Zootopia, Thor Ragnorak, or any other film? What’s different here? Why are some films more preloaded (ticket sales) than others? Open question.

I think the $70m Halloween/Venom OW zone would be amazing. $100m is a big ask even in this "go big or go home" BO era.

Its got to do with the type of audience a movie is attracting. Often time you see that a movie that attracts female demograph are more pre-sales heavy. MCU movies attract everyone at this point so if their movies are showing bigger pre-sales number then it means the movie is going to explode.

US falls under "horror" category or possibly even fan driven event (after Get Out), both of which are traditionally very frontloaded and/or presales heavy.

I feel recently the movies targeting black audience are pre-sales heavy as well but there hasn't been as many standalone(original or all-black, BP doesn't count) HUGE openers for them to provide the right data.

Looks likely to double Get Out's OW, which is an incredible feat. Anecdotal WOM last night wasn't universally stellar but no reason to believe it will impact the first week.
