Re: Early Thursday previews (mother of god)
Really impressive. One of those movies I totally misread during any given year. Yeah, it was Marvel, but I didn't expect this kind of performance, especially looking at March comps.

I'm expecting over 150m. Think it'll have really strong Saturday and Sunday holds.

Re: Early Thursday previews (mother of god)
Quote: ComScore/Screen Engine PostTrak scores out of the gate for the 21st Marvel title in the MCU are off to a great start with 4 1/2 stars and a 73% definite recommend. Men overall led over females last night 60% to 40%. It will be interesting to see if that changes over the weekend. Captain Marvel pulled in a 77% general audience, 9% parents and 4% kids. Kids under 12 gave the female superhero five stars with girls giving the pic 100% and boys 91%. In order of demo draw last night men 25+ led at 37% followed by men under 25 (23%), women over 25 (21%) and women under 25 (18%). Women love the pic better than guys, 91% to 82% with females over 25 bestowing the best grades from adults on Carol Danvers at 96% positive. https://deadline.com/2019/03/captain-ma ... 202571905/

Re: Early Thursday previews (mother of god)
So it has the same demographic breakdown as all the others. Good for Men. I know the Toxic ones are making a stink online but it turns out most don’t care about Brie trying to turn this into Black Panther for girls.

Seems low, doesn’t it? Any idea what Alita got?

Re: Early Thursday previews (mother of god)
Since 2014 and especially since 2016 the bar for comic book movies has been rising. It seems each hit means more hype and marketing for the next. Black Panther, Infinity War, Wonder Woman, Civil War, DeadPool, Guardians of the Galaxy, Suicide Squad, Thor: Ragnarok, Aquaman and now Captain Marvel. Even Doctor Strange, Venom, and Ant Man 2 were “minor” hits. Spider-man also did well even though it wasn’t unprecedented. BVS and Justice League look even worse by comparison.

Re: Early Thursday previews (mother of god)
I've seen a lot about "international women's day". This will frontload it a bit if not drastically. Also it's getting the last jedi treatment on rotten tomatoes so that implies weaker legs.

Re: Early Thursday previews (mother of god)
It's crazy how much gas the superhero genre has. At this rate they are going to be as big a part of film history as westerns.

RT and IMDB are not necessarily that representative. Based on the prerelease internet buzz it was predictable that this would get negative online reviews. But if it were reflective of general audiences you would expect a weaker cinemascore and BO. Oh and TLJ was going to drop because it was a SW movie. The keep getting more frontloaded and that one no longer had the 15 year wait to pull in GA which tends to see a movie later. CM is also much less dependent on fans.
