Re: March 8-10 predictions
I put this at a $265m domestic total before, and I still think that sounds about right with an opening of just under $100m.

At last!
Hoping for a breakout north of $130M but I think it’ll be closer to $110M.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
I was expecting a $150m opening but I'm not really sensing huge buzz. Also I feel the whole backlash against Brie Larson may hurt the opening but if it does over $120m opening then I'd say it wasn't a huge effect.
I'm thinking a $132m opening.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
Not sensing huge buzz but the marketplace has been without a huge opener for a long time and I sense people will turn out for this latest MCU event. I'll go with a $135m opening.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
$110m, which would be perfectly fine for it.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
Unless it ends up being unusually pre-sales heavy CM shouldn't have a problem cracking $100M. I honestly still see it going as high as $150-$160M, but you never know you guys could be right about it being closer to something like $110-$130M which still wouldn't be that bad either. The marketplace has been dead for two months now though, and there seems to be enough buzz surrounding it to at least push it to an a EVENT level opening IMO. All we need to see now is what the reviews will look like, but I'm sure they will be really positive for the most part no matter what the manbabies think.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
I usually have a fairly good feel for hype and anticipation but I'm totally lost on this. It looks so painfully generic and uneventful to me. I hadn't even heard of the character before this film, and for it to open higher than Wonder Woman seems insane. I really don't get it. Maybe I'm getting old. I was right on the money OW-wise for several similar films recently, including Venom, FB2 and Aquaman, so I'm going to rely on my gut instinct instead of what all the tracking and pre-sales and whatnot seem to be saying:
Captain Marvel: $85m

Re: March 8-10 predictions
Avengers End Game is what everyone is waiting for + this has some negative buzz surrounding it.
BUT - the marketplace has been so weak this year, this will indeed have a massive OW.
$140m OW.

Why wouldn't the Wonder Woman crowd show up for this?

$140m OW. Does a lack of appealing films mean something MUST break out though? After following the box office for many years, I have to say that the inherent appeal of a film seems to do decide its fate more than competition (or lack thereof). Perhaps Marvel is a strong enough brand that it has a huge "potential" audience out there itching for something to see and this fits the bill.

Captain Marvel: $85m You're not the only one. Actually if we just take a look at the Marvel franchise history, it doesn't show that $140m or even $100m worth of people would automatically watch the next one in the series. I think the only definitive boost we've seen was the Iron Man 3 opening coming off of Avengers 1 and that had some of the worst legs. I didn't think Black Panther looked great and it made a killing, and this does have the Avengers tease and being the last movie between the Avengers sequels so there is some possible inflation of the OW. Still, the overarching feel of the trailer is that this is such a generic movie.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
Barrabás and BK not able to see the interest for a female superhero movie is not a surprise. In fact, anyone on this site not being able to is not a surprise. We're often way off when it comes to any prediction that isn't either a male-driven blockbusters or an animated movie. It is slowly turning, sure, but stalwarts like BK and Barrabás are still way behind the curve.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
Captain Marvel - $143m
The movie feels grand in scope. Last trailer has some memorable lines including Jackson schooling Larson "That's a yes-or-no question." and Larson's "I'm not gonna fight your war. I'm gonna end it.". Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck wrote and directed this. They made Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind, both of which were not conventional movies. I will love it if the story breaks the ordinary mold of a superhero movie.

It also comes out on International Women's Day. Will that have an effect?

Re: March 8-10 predictions
Reviews appear solid, generally praising it as entertaining if a bit flawed/derivative.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
Could challenge $100m with the good reviews but I'm still in the under camp.

Re: March 8-10 predictions
It'll clear 100m. I think the lowest it can go is Guardians 1 opening adjusted, which is probably over 100m.
