Dark Phoenix really should have opened this weekend.

I know wide release is the week after, not sure how many theaters this weekend. It's getting good reviews so maybe it'll breakout.

Yeah, it probably could've matched Apocalypse's opening for the 5-day. Dumb.

I’m starting to feel Alita might do better than we expect. The theaters are DESOLATE right now. There is NOTHING to see for Valentines Day that appeals to both sexes other than maybe LEGO but that’s still a kids movie. Alita will really be helped by date night this weekend I think.

Or couples will go bowling, to the theater, a concert, or myriad other things. I don't see Alita doing well simply because it exits on VD/President's Day Weekend.

In support of your argument, though, the FB numbers are pretty strong if one thinks they mean anything.

I expect Isn't It Romantic to surprise even though it looks dumb.

Alita serves both sexes which is important. Isn't it Romantic looks very generic and targets only women. Both movies will do "solid" though I don't see any of them exploding which will end up in Alita being a financial bomb. FYI in Asian markets near me Alita has good reviews and doing decent overall, its score at RT isn't entirely pathetic as well anymore. Recent success during this spot have been concept driven or visual heavy movies than a generic looking rom-com.

How does Alita serve both sexes? Just because the lead is female? lol. Are women that simple that they'll be interested in anything just because it's about one of their kind? You guys have a low opinion of women. For me...it's an action movie based on Japanese anime, so I'd say it's mainly for guys.

And Happy Death Day 2U is the date movie that appeals to both sexes, so that's the one I'd say will benefit more over this period.

I'm not surprised. I mean technically it's not really a horror film anyway. This second is supposed to be even less so. The director has a pretty good track record. Sure hope solid reviews can generate some interest for it.
