Lego Movie 2 - 48 What Men Want - 15 Cold Pursuit - 8 The Prodigy - 7
It'll be interesting to see if that Neeson article that came out today will affect Cold Pursuit.

Re: Februrary 8-10 predictions
I still maintain that What Men Want will surprise and make close to $30m OW. I have not seen much advertising for it though.
The Prodigy might upset Cold Pursuit, which looks too European to do well.

Re: Februrary 8-10 predictions
Will be seeing The Prodigy and Cold Pursuit. Prodigy's more recent marketing is far more promising than the initial teaser I saw a while back. Cold Pursuit looks entertaining in the way most Neeson action movies are.

Why is Cold Pursuit projected so much lower than The Commuter?

Is the Prodigy going that low? I thought possessed kids was easy money and it has the most viewed trailer of anything in February I believe

Lego Movie 2 - 55m What Men Want - 26m Cold Pursuit - 16m The Prodigy - 14m
I think it will be one of those weekends where all films fire up and do well. Reasonably common for early February too.

Commuter was over a holiday weekend and actually looked somewhat different for a Neeson movie in that it wasn't really a revenge movie. I'd even argue that Vera Farmiga added a little extra appeal. His movies have mostly been opening in the same range for a while now. But Cold Pursuit is also opening in the wake of his very controversial interview that everyone is talking about. I feel that will shave 1-2 Million off what it may have opened to otherwise. Great reviews will help to counter it though.

Re: Februrary 8-10 predictions
I’ve heard The Prodigy has a strange final act/ending that will make or break the film for some people as well as financially so the Cinemascore and box office should be interesting, I’m curious now and may see it tomorrow night

Definitely makes me even more curious.

Re: Februrary 8-10 predictions
Will the Neeson controversy really have any impact on Cold Pursuit? It still looks like a solid film that will attract an older demo.

Not many people draw a connection between his off comments and the film. And he is not the kind of celebrities that people usually pay attention to when they talk. His comments are a lot to unpack. And he did a damage control interview to dilute the offensiveness. So not many people pay enough attention to impact the box office.

Re: Februrary 8-10 predictions
It will have an effect. We know that the common man is not very intelligent. They hate thinking of life as being complicated. They like right and wrong, yes and no, good and bad, with no grey areas at all. So when the headlines are "Liam Neeson, Racist", people will label him bad and look for a way to show their dissatisfaction. Cold Pursuit will be the victim here.

Liam Neeson is a huge liberal lefty, excuses will be made. Mel Gibson he is not.

But I'll still watch a movie with him if it looks good and I'll still watch a movie with Mel Gibson if it looks good. Clint Eastwood as well. I hate his politics but he has made some great movies and I'll continue to watch the ones I find appealing. There's really nobody I can't say that about. I don't know how many people will generally boycott a movie over something like that. Unless you're Woody Allen. Which is also bullshit IMO. Now he probably is truly done for the most part. Anyway his comments won't help and it could make it harder for him to find work in the future. But I don't think it will damage Cold Pursuit all that much.

But nobody is suggesting that Liam Neeson will be banished from the business for a decade. Just that his movie that comes out in the same week as his racist controversy will be affected because of it, which it will. Mel Gibson is literally at the other end of the spectrum. You should have chosen someone a bit closer to make your point.

Re: Februrary 8-10 predictions
$1.5m for Lego 2 seems a bit soft. Could miss Lego Batman with that.

Lego 2 was surely going to miss Lego Batman. I still don't think $150m will be easy for this.
