lol That's ridiculously huge for a January Wednesday. Expected to hit over $11m over the 6 days. Pretty goods considering that would have been good as its total.

Is this one of the most surprising openings ever? I doubt most on KJ even knew it was being released?

That had to have been announced within a few days ago (on BOM anyway).

It's a crazy big number but on the other hand it'll be one of the most frontloaded films of all time. Today was the one and only day for it to be on IMAX.

Wow! Was this a one day only event or something?

I think it's a six-day event, I believe, but it'll probably have a few more days added.

FUNimation, and all the voice cast, have done a great job marketing it; they're really improving with their theatrical releases. And being able to dub it and have it ready for a release just one month after its debut in Japan is an incredible accomplishment. This process used to take up to a year, or longer.

FUNimation trademarked SimulDub is bringing anime to international fans faster than ever before. FUNimation is capable of releasing English dub anime/movies on the same day, or just a week or two after its debut in Japan these days, thanks to their SimulDub studio that operates 18-20 hours a day.

Broly is also the first anime film to get an IMAX release in the US.

Pretty huge for Broly, but Dragon Ball still has a big following in the U.S. and this one seemed to have a lot of hype based on the reactions I have seen to the trailers.

I was surprised to see sold out shows this evening at the theater so not shocked now to see that number. Very strong.
