Post The End of an Era? BOM goes gone girl
Prayer circle that they're just having technical difficulties but...

:tears:

Quote:
The site has been quietly redirected to its parent company

Box Office Mojo website has been shut down, as the site currently redirects to IMDb.

Box Office Mojo was acquired by IMDb in 2008 and seems to have been absorbed by its parent company, which itself is owned by Amazon. At the time, Box Office Mojo said it would remain a stand alone company.

Box Office Mojo is a critical tool for movie industry executives in Hollywood who look to the site for real-time box office results and historical and comparative data. It was founded in 1999 by Brandon Gray as a three-person company headquartered in Burbank.

IMDb has a vast collection of data on films, but is lacking in detailed data on box office metrics. It is unknown how IMDB will incorporate the Box Office Mojo data into its system. The layout for Box Office Mojo is set up solely for an in-depth look at box office metrics, while IMDb fills many roles, highlighting trailers, movie stills, cast lists and fan commentary.

IMDb has not yet responded to TheWrap's request for comment and there has been no official word or message posted from IMDB or Box Office Mojo's official Twitter accounts.

Yeah I saw the article on variety. If it is gone that sucks. So, where is the best box office information now? IMBD sucks when it comes to that information.

Other sites may have better/more complete numbers... but BOM was efficient and easy to navigate. Everything was sorted logically (minus a few movies and their genres).

I feel that the site is just under maintenance, no idea why they would get rid of its database.

But if that's the case then fuuuuuu

Plus, most other BO sites still look and act like they're in the 90's. So bad.

This sucks! They better reformat it to a box office section if this is the case.

the-numbers.com might be the second best and that's not even close to mojo.

Movie people on Twitter seem pretty pissed/sad.

From Slashfilm though... "The original reporter who claimed BOM was being shut down by IMDB is now crediting his instinct and eyes as his source."

Um, let's just hope this is temporary. I mean, what would IMDB achieve by this?

Let me guess:

"You get free access to boxofficemojo archive when you join Amazon Prime." The site's front page reads when it comes back.

there you go.

Notice on the bottom of the Amazon.com homepage, boxofficemojo is absent in the list products and services Amazon provides while IMDB is there.

Well, The Wrap still has no new intel. They just wrote about what we all see.

And BTW, Sean Saulsbury commented there. :D

I just saw that, and he doesn't seem to know anything. I guess he has no sources there. Does Brandon even work at imdb? or did he just take the money and left the company?

He stayed with the site for a while after selling it to IMDB, but left rather unceremoniously. He was a total downer by the end of his tenure (it seemed like nothing could excite him anymore), but he still had more expertise than Subers does, I think, who is a rather bland writer.

True it just seems to dispel that BOM us under maintenance.

I take it you have copied the database to excel? I will now need to do it using the archive.

I actually haven't, I am just using the archive. I don't think it is going anywhere.

If it's gone for good, it was only a matter of time once they got rid of the forums. I'm surprised it took them six years to do it.
