I think this will do very well and the timing is actually perfect (not too long since the first at all), however even this benchmark being thrown out as a suggestion is waaayyy off. Like, please don’t set me up for disappointment when it makes $600 fucking million dollars.

Those doubting that people are still interested, or might pass on this in theaters when they saw the first one multiple times or whatever... anecdotal counter evidence: I’ll be seeing this in theaters (34 year old male) with other guy friends around the same age. Guarantee none of us went to see the original in the theater.

If the first was truly beloved, there's no time limit for sequels. Incredibles 2 was 14 years after the original. Toy Story 3 was 10 years after 2. Etc.

I do think this is about to explode but the range is huge.

Marketing is terrible though. Incredibles appeals to adults, had the Me Too movement in it's prime. Toy Story had 24+ years of great will. Frozen 2 will increase, but it has dropped the ball from being a 650+ earner. But it's not like it matters. Increase is an increase.

Well China probably censored the entire lesbian love story so I imagine they were pretty confused by the 55 minute final cut.
