Bohemian Rhapsody is running ahead (performance based) of both Frozen and Avatar in Japan after eight weeks in release. It probably hasn't seen its biggest week yet either, which should be this upcoming week.

It's also been outgrossing its weekly earnings in the U.S. in the market since week 6, and is now doubling its weekly gross in the U.S beginning with week 8, and it'll continue to grow and grow.

Even being mentioned in the same sentence as Frozen and Avatar is incredible.

If this wins big at the Globes tonight and also gets a Best Picture nomination then could it go past $800m?

Wonder if it'll come out in China.

Who would have thought this would go past A Star Is Born domestically?

Bohemian Rhapsody - Japan Weekly Performance
WK1: ¥354.3 million ($3.2 million)
WK2: ¥388.5 million ($3.4 million), +10%, ¥1.321 billion ($11.7 million)
WK3: ¥395.0 million ($3.5 million), +02%, ¥2.336 billion ($20.8 million)
WK4: ¥496.0 million ($4.4 million), +26%, ¥3.323 billion ($29.4 million)
WK5: ¥505.1 million ($4.5 million), +02%, ¥4.394 billion ($38.9 million)
WK6: ¥431.5 million ($3.8 million), -15%, ¥5.362 billion ($47.4 million)
WK7: ¥389.1 million ($3.5 million), -10%, ¥6.255 billion ($55.3 million)
WK8: ¥364.0 million ($3.3 million), -07%, ¥7.200 billion ($63.8 million)
WK9: ¥335.8 million ($3.1 million), -08%, ¥8.457 billion ($75.3 million)

You can probably add another $30 million, or more, to its nine week total from Japan. A total over $100 million is very likely now. The Golden Globe wins, and any other major award wins in the coming weeks, will only help to keep it going, and going, and going.

So BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY stayed No. 1 in the Czech Republic in its 10th weekend (with the best hold in the Top Ten) and has sold more tickets than TITANIC now...

This has to easily be one of the most astounding OS performances in a very long time. Like who the hell thought this would do $800M+ WW or be anywhere close to the top 10 WW of 2018.

Given the reviews I'm still surprised on its domestic run as well as the awards nominations, wins.

Reminds me of those Ice Age movies. Eye popping OS numbers. Makes the upcoming Elton John biopic one to watch out for.

People love Queen THAT much? Jesus.

After Straight Outta Compton and this Hollywood must be scrambling right now to secure the rights to Beatles, Davie Bowie (huge potential there), Madonna (Amanda Seyfried would've been perfect 10 years ago), Elvis, Jimi Hendrix, Kurt Cobain/Nirvana, Amy Winehouse, etc etc. movies and music. They could even do a Britney movie, God knows there's some juicy drama there.

They must realized that so many of the music icons of the last half century are basically huge brandnames with tons of fans, universal awareness, and dramatic in-built narratives that lend themselves perfectly to movies. It's like they're sitting on a bunch of Harry Potters.

Yeah I'm really curious to see what Rocketman does now. It should do well, but I'd be shocked if it came anywhere close to this kind of performance. A lot of these biopics are sitting goldmines it seems.

Rocketman might still do well but he is still alive unlike Freddie and Eazy-E. I do think that makes a difference in terms of box office.

That girl can't sing worth SQUAT. Watch anything she's been in involving her attempting to sing for reference.

Prince, Bowie, Beatles would all be interesting to me.

I meant that she kind of looks like her, the have a similar facial structure, high cheekbones, etc.

Image

And you know what, she's only 33, if Rami Malek could play young 20s Freddie being 37 years old now then Amanda could do young Madonna as well. There's nothing make up and a lil bit of CGI retouching can't fix.
