Openings for Creed and Ralph were about as expected. I see Ralph having good legs for around 250m total if it loses its business to Mary Poppins. If it manages to hold in face of that, I could see it get higher. Creed will probably hit 110-120m total. Both are disappointing after their opening days though, especially Creed considered its preview to OD ratio was similar to Creed.

Beasts didn’t hold well, but WOM is not good even among fans, so it’s doing about as well as can be expected. Course correction is needed with film 3. New writer, new director, etc. The only way the franchise can be saved is if the next one hits it out of the park. I think they might incorporate Voldemort’s backstory in the next few since he was about to be born around this time.

Grinch held well, as did instant Family. Will be interesting to see if they can maintain momentum into December.

Wow at Creed 2 and Ralph. I can see creed 2 making 140nto 130 to 140 with its great WOM. Home run indeed.

Bohemian Rhapsody finishing with 500m+ WW is very impressive.

Very good for Ralph and Creed, both saw healthy increases from the first films.

Fantastic Beasts urgently needs a director and screenwriter change (Rowling can do the story but not the actual script) if it wants to make it to five films. Otherwise it's going to get Transformers'd.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a huge success and I suspect they will try to greenlight a whole bunch of music superstar biopics in the next few years. Maybe that Blonde Ambition Madonna biopic will get made after all (it was the #1 screenplay on the black list a few years ago). Surely a Beatles biopic can't be that far away. Aerosmith seems like a safe bet as well, Steven Tyler had a messy history with drugs and not knowing his daughter and stuff so there's material for drama. Kurt Cobain would seem obvious but since Courtney Love owns the rights to the music I doubt she will let it happen because any film worth watching would portray her in a very bad light lol. Amy Winehouse will probably happen eventually (her family is money hungry so they'll sell the rights in a second) but maybe it's too soon.

Indeed - a heap of these will be green lit. And eventually someone (if not Scorsese) will make Sinatra.

I was reading a 1994 interview with Cobain just yesterday and wondering that it was just a matter of time he gets the biopic treatment (but yes there is that Courtney Love issue).

Good hold for Instant Family. Should be good for about $60m total.

Great record breaking weekend. Alot of depth in that Top 10.

I doubt they'd want to make a biopic while they are still alive. There's reasons why films dealing with Liberace or Freddy Mercury work. I doubt any of the other bands mentioned would be big, just for the mere fact the Rock of Ages was such a flop. People definitely underestimated Queen's Appeal.

But I'm not sure a Beatles or Aerosmith would be bigger than a Jersey Boys or Get on Up. And their biggest issue is settling on the music, The ones that have been the most successful do better than the music. These are probably the hardest films to predict. Marketing is the number 1 with these.

The Beatles would be big if done right. I doubt Aerosmith would.

A Dave Grohl one would be interesting (much more interesting than a Kurt Cobain one), but maybe not hugely successful, and perhaps it might be better when he dies. I would be interested to see his evolution from Nirvana to Foo Fighters, and also his other collaborations such as with QOTSA.

Dave Grohl would be awesome. I love the Foo's. The transition from Nirvana to Foo Fighters would be interesting and you could satisfy the Cobain angle during the Nirvana years.

Interestingly - that Cobain interview I was reading (conducted 3 months before his death) he mentions how Grohl always felt he could easily be replaced so he used to constantly reassure Grohl and give him complements etc. I thought that was fascinating considering how successful Grohl has become since.

A film dealing with the aftermath of Kurt's death and Dave Grohl's decision to start a new band and all the challenges involved in that could be great.
