Re: Thursday #'s/Previews
Instant Family made 550k last night.
It's not a bad # for Fantastic Beasts but the previous Deadline article said Tuesday previews would be rolled in this number. If it manages to open in the 70s I'd say that's fine. Legs will be interesting though.

Pretty good for FB2. Can't rule out $70m with that.
Not bad for Instant Family. Might be able to do upper teens, looking solid on MT.

Re: Thursday #'s/Previews
That’s about on par with the first, and it will probably be a tad more but not way more front loaded. Over/under 70m sounds right. But legs are going to be bad unless it just becomes a default holiday moviegoing choice.

Widows - $600K
Guess that's pretty good considering the target demographics?

Guess that's pretty good considering the target demographics? I mean its looking at mid teens opening which isn't that great IMO, but maybe it will have decent legs with Thanksgiving next week. Also, according to DHD the FB2 number includes the $3M it made from the fan showings on Tuesday.

Re: Thursday #'s/Previews
I thought Widows would be close to $1M. EW also gave it a C, and while not the most respected publication they do seem to be more in line with popular opinion than the top Metacritics. So these girls might just be another First Man...
Beasts is ... OK. It should have gotten more, especially with Tuesday lumped in, but it can still match the last one.

$27.5M first estimate is pretty solid. And it could always go up!
Widows and Instant looking at mid to low teens weekends. Meh

Widows and Instant looking at mid to low teens weekends. Meh I think DL is underestimating the multpliers for Widows and Instant Family.

Re: Thursday #'s/Previews
Both THR and Variety have Widows and Instant Family in the same range, so if DL ends up being really off they won't be the only ones. Honestly, low-mid teens would be pretty damn surprising to me if true, especially for Widows. With that ensemble cast and the great reviews it should be doing much better.

Re: Thursday #'s/Previews
How does a 5 and 5.5 Friday translate into a 12 to 13 million weekend for two films that's not going to be front-loaded

Pretty meh for FB2. It's doing nothing spectacular. Standard franchise opening. Will be forgotten quickly after a generic stroll to around $180-200m.

Re: Thursday #'s/Previews
Wow Beasts rottentomatoes score plummeted all the way down to 40%. Never thought I’d see a Potter film that low.

There are only 8 Potter films, and they're fresh. The FB series is no Potter.

Re: Thursday #'s/Previews
WB forgot that the central feature and key appeal of the Potter franchise wasn't the magic, it was the trio. That's what Twilight, Hunger Games, etc were really trying to replicate (in other 'fantastical' settings).
The new characters in Fantastic Beasts fell totally flat. Who even remembers what the wizard girl and the muggle guy are called? Whereas Ron and Hermione were instantly iconic and household names.
They better hire a co-writer to reign Rowling in (she doesn't realize that exposition works differently in a novel than it does on film) or five films is going to become very difficult.
