It looks good. I hope it makes more than Toy Story 4.

I think the way they figured out how to make Pikachu talk is perfect.

$1 billion+ worldwide guaranteed. $250m domestic minimum. $300m+ in Japan possible. China is a total wildcard. This will cut deeply into Avengers.

Lol, even if TS4 sucks, it wouldn't be possible.

??

Pokemon is one of the biggest brands in the world and this film has 20+ years of pent up demand to see a live action version. Toy Story 3 only made $1b WW. It's really not that impossible.

I can see this fail. Playing Pokemon Go is not the same as wanting to see a film with Pokemon in it. It might do well in Japan (though not sure because they reject anything US-made) but in the US I can see a total of just $80m. I can also see a total of $120m. But it's not going to be a monster hit, and even suggesting it might beat Toy Story 4 is funny.

That's not even Illumination. I thought you loved Disney/Pixar. ;)

Well this movie is winning against Toy Story 4 in the teaser poster department.

The only reason I even compared the two is because the trailers came out on the same day. I want to see both, but Detective Pikachu does look better to me.

This looks to be a huge hit. $200m+ is highly likely.

I believe Avengers 4 will move up a week to the last week of April anyway (just like they did with IW) - so that will help give this film some space.

Wow that looks awesome. I was expecting some nonsense with this project but it is basically the live-action Pokemon movie we have always wanted. $100M opening should be achievable possibly much more. This brand is massive all around the world.

Avengers 4 moving up should definitely help this movie. May 2019 is already looking a lot more promising than this year with this, Aladdin, John Wick: Chapter 3 and Godzilla 2.

Avengers should move...for its own sake. It's looking at a 70%+ drop if it doesn't.

I could honestly see something insane like $150m/$400m+ for this if everything else goes right. The potential is massive. A Transformers 2007 run would not surprise me, and Pokemon is way bigger than Transformers as a brand (especially pre-Michael Bay movies).

Also there's a rumour the black guy is actually Brock and the white girl we see for 2 secs in the trailer is Misty....

Man, you're going to be disappointed when this fails to hit $150m total.

Maybe because one gave you footage to a movie, and the other was a simple straight teaser produced just for theaters. Moron.

I don't think this can open higher than 35 million. It looks better than it has any right to be but it's not Rated R but its not kiddy either. It does have the disadvantage of being too adult for kids and not crazy enough for adults.

28/65 total. Probably will be a decent size hit though so all in all another win for Reynolds. Bring on the Clue and Highlander Reboots.

The 1999 animated film adjusts to 55m/155m. Different times yes but looks like that will be the floor for this.
