Will Smith looks a complete mess LMAO. I knew this would be hard to adapt.

Will Smith looks ridiculous. Such bad CGI. But the rest seemed fine, at least fine in the sense that Disney will easily be able to force a $240m gross out of it. But damn, Will Smith is embarrassing.

This looks like the best dose of cinematic escapism for the year. Please give me more of the magic of 1001 Nights.

Jesus, Smith's Genie looks like the stuff of nightmares. Such a awful way to reveal such an iconic character. I would not be surprised if this flat out bombed anymore.

Replacing Robin Williams is impossible, but it seems they made it worse than it could have been. Is it too late to do a CGI visual to replace Smith's face and body?

It would look no worse than the other Disney cash grabs if not for the genie

Idk why they didn't just CGI him into a unique shape shifting genie or something. He looks like he came right out of the show I Dream of Jeanie. It's nonsense and has me quite concerned about the box office potential. You can only bank so much on the music which is amazing but this Will Smith playing Will Smith in blue makeup is trash at the moment. Also the Guy Ritchie pick is still a shock.

They should seriously push back and reshoot with him as a non-blue genie

Wow, this looks really bad and I'm glad. Disney sucks. Tired of their complete lack of creativity, instead remaking all their old films for a quick buck in addition to umpteen comic book sequels.

Indeed. I was on the sub-Cinderella wagon, but now I'm starting to wonder how much more than Prince of Persia this will do.

This was doomed when Guy Ritchie was signed on.

The visuals (outside of the Genie) look solid but Will's Genie will make or break this and judging by the trailer reaction - it is well and truly broken.

And now it is clear as day why Disney allowed this and TLK to remain in the same summer. This will be a non event.

When they announced the project, I just assumed it would be a CGI genie with Smith's voice. Some well-paid suit must have thought this was a better direction.

The dislikes on the "Sneak Peak" or whatever that is ahhh

Toy Story 4 is also not looking that hot.

Is Disney's all-mega-tentpoles-all-the-time strategy starting to backfire?

Disney could offer up a 2 hour plate of shit and it would still make $80m opening weekend. It's not backfiring. Not even Roger Federer at his peak won every grand slam.

The problem is $80m OW is not enough to cover the budget on these things (also see: Solo A Star Wars Story).

I think this will have overseas appeal. Solo's overseas total was pretty embarassing.

I'm more concerned about Jafar tbh. He sounds awful.

The point is that this isn't a plate of shit. It will make more.

The official trailer link from Walt Disney. It has 45,000 thumbs up, and 65,000 thumbs down. I've never seen anything like that before.

The best part was Abu. Really realistic monkey. I'd definitely watch a spinoff of that one.

Disney is definitely aware this film is going to fall well short of expectations. Why else release this new trailer just a week after the Super Bowl? Because all the backlash it's currently receiving would have been tenfold and hurt it even further.

Robin Williams and the Genie are arguably the most iconic of Disney characters in modern history, and this live-action remake was always going to the most difficult to adapt because of that. It was going to receive a certain degree of backlash no matter what, but the decision for a non-CGI version of the Genie was very silly.
