It should be good for at least 275m domestic unless it's downright atrocious.

If this does underperform that Memorial holiday slot really os cursed.

Lol at that picture with Smith as the Genie. This looks like its going to be a real mess, but that's exactly how people who have seen early footage of it described it.

The characters look fresh and their costumes colorful. It's going to be visual effects-heavy. So I can't comment further until I see some footage.

I think it looks goofy and different enough for families to buy the whole facade.

Now that I've seen Will Smith as the genie - wow this looks crap. Wasn't the genie supposed to be CGI???

No wonder Disney kept The Lion King in 2019, they obviously think this will under-perform.

Smith has said Genie will be CGI/Blue, that's just how he looks when he's in human form.

I'll reserve judgement till we get a proper trailer. Even if there's a change it doesn't deliver I'm looking forward to this way more than TLK.

Yeah supposedly he's going to be blue most of the movie, but still this was a crappy way to reveal such a beloved character from that original movie. People were already skeptical of the casting of Will Smith from the beginning and you can't blame them because Robin Williams pretty much made that character his own. Honestly, none of the EW photos look that great IMO. They got the prettiest, most Drake looking dude ever to play Jafar lol.

I don't remember the 1992 one, but was there any portion of the film where the genie wasn't ... a genie? So has that part been added to this live-action one?

During Prince Ali the genie does take human form in the animated version.

I’m beginning to feel this is gonna be a max 300 film. Idk why I picked this first now in my draft. These photos aren’t doing anything for me. Hopefully the first full trailer can change my mind

It's already 0 for two. Teaser underwhelmed, and now these photos, while trending, make it look shit.

The excuse that The Genie will be blue/CGI for most of the film feels like something they had to say once reactions were largely "Uh.. what?" to the character's interpretation from Will Smith. If the reactions were positive, guaranteed it would have been opposite: he'll be briefly blue, but Will Smith for most of the movie.

It sounds to me like they have no idea how to do it properly. Cause I'm sure Will Smith wants people to know it's him and not just play a cartoon the whole movie, but... they can't just paint him blue. If they had it, they would have released images. That's what would sell the movie better, people wanted that, not Will Smith looking like a poster for a shitty 1990s kids movie.

No movie footage has been officially released. It is still being kept under wraps. Probably the movie is still in post-production and testing stage.

Have faith in Aladdin the brand. It is a famous folklore made even more popular by the movies.

Indeed.

A similar issue to unmasking superheroes for the majority of a film in order to show the major star's face.

However - this is far worse.

Major major error in allowing EW to publish these photos.

Perhaps a re-think and re-shoots will be required and this gets pushed back. Let's see.

I don't think Smith looks bad, but I still think they could have used Robins 2 films and make it work, and that would have been a nice end. I mean the guy got a individual oscar just for that role.

This looks shit, I could deal with the Jasmine and Aladdin actors, but Will Smith looks horrendous and beyond ridiculous.

No, but I did for you taking credit for that idea from me years ago when the project was first announced. July 2017 if I recall. And no I don't think I criticized you. It still would have been a great idea
