Post Re: Aladdin predictions
In the right hands this film is a slam dunk. The music, the story, the genie, carpet, everything should sing but they started all this with Guy flack Ritchie. Even back then when he was announced it was a R u Serious. Then time goes on and we're like...well let's see what happens. Then we get the cast. Okay...not terrible. Then we get a trailer...no Genie. Then the photo from EW. Wuhhh. Now this fake cheesy will smith as will smith in blue. It's trash but ya I'm gonna watch it at least once. Maybe I'll love it. It's possible the music can save it.

Agreed.

Honestly.... this should move to September. Besides It there is no big Blockbuster there, and if they can, maybe they could touch up on the Genie's CGI, which they probably are still doing. The Memorial Day slot just doesn't work.

This should stay exactly where it is. It's ripe for the slaughter.

Memorial Day is terrible for it. It will get slaughtered.

They should have brought it forward to February!

That was a decent trailer actually. Only thing that seems real off is Jafar.

Maybe they were smart to let people know of the worst part early on. Get prepared. That trailer looked like a normal Disney live-action release. It'll do fine, I bet.

Finally they got their shit together. Smart using the song. Perhaps this won’t bomb after all.

If this was opening in a Star Wars less December, this would be the biggest film of the year.

This is the most under predicted film of the year no doubt.

Big Willie style + a huge dose of a A WHOLE NEW WORLD is a time machine for 90s babies back into childhood.

Trailer is still weak sauce to me, it has the goodwill and songs of the original film, but I don't think it looks good at all and will not nearly do as good as it could.

I mean its a better trailer for sure, but overall this movie just isn't doing anything for me. I'm still not liking the casting for Aladdin and Jafar and while the CGI on Smith's Genie did look better we got so little of him in the trailer to actually make much of an impression IMO. The brief scene of Naomi Scott singing A WHOLE NEW WORLD sounded great though.

I guess they knew they couldn't even get close to the original Jafar (there are things that only animation can do) so they just decided to play in another field.
I'd say Aladdin is the real unexplicable choice. Just an unattractive dumb face.

This trailer is too little too late, but I think 85m OW and like 220 total is reasonable now. If this was the first trailer it probably could have done 300.

I'm getting a Force Awakens vibe, but besides that it's nicely composed.

It looks like the best of the Disney live action remakes. What?

At least it is somewhat a remake. I kind of respect that about it. Will Smith, a black man, being the new genie is enough of a change to warrant the remake, in my opinion. Whereas all the other live-action remakes are carbon copies just with real humans instead of animation, and for me do not warrant remakes. But, of course, I am talking purely from a creative perspective, and not a money grabbing cunt perspective. ;)

To be fair that's actually a very good poster. And while still not sold on it - the trailer is relatively effective. It may have shifted general audience sentiments from highly negative to mixed to mildly positive which is an impressive achievement. This is likely to avoid being a total disaster now.

I didn't have a big issue with the initial teaser/Genie reveal but really really really wished Disney had released this trailer first. It strikes the same chords as Beauty and the Beast trailer (while being slightly less effective since the story isn't as iconic as BatB). Please don't screw this up Guy Ritchie.

Is it just me or did anyone else get reminded of a Bollywood movie? :D

Yes! It has a bit of a zany colourful vibe like a Bollywood film.

This is a big turnaround of a trailer. The response in Youtube is striking:

Oct. 11: Teaser: 390K+, 30K- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9g5knnlF7Zo
Feb. 10: Special look: 66K +, 108K- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hHECMVOq7g
Feb. 11: Trailer 2: 86K, 39K- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lD-NcoXJbsU
Mar 12: Trailer: 248+, 21K-, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=foyufD52aog

The first teaser didn't show anything so was well received. Clearly the first trailer was a disaster.

Already the new trailer is being received well. Can see this do $300 m+ now as the nostalgic factor is strong with the new one.

This trailer did improve my hopes. They got a classic song in. Jafar seems lame but we did get some action. It's very colorful. I'm not totally hating the genie anymore. I'm more optimistic now.
