Considering last week was Labor Day and the competition, it’s not bad for Crazy Rich Asians. It’s not like the first drop, but would be great for any other movie.

WB should get Lights Out 2 made and they could release that over either the first weekend of January or the weekend after Labor Day. If the latter it would have to wait for a couple years since they have IT next year. Honestly surprised there's been no movement on one since it was first announced. They're definitely waiting too long.

It's just an average hold - 4th best of the top 8 holdovers, worse than The Help's despite a weaker LD hold - which suggests what was to be expected: as soon as the movie is not the "movie of the moment" anymore, it comes back to normality. Should finish in the 180's.

I agree it lost that edge this weekend and should now post good but not gravity defying great holds.

Yeah, I don't know that any movie has had a true "80s run" since MBFGW.

Avatar, I guess.

The business doesn't really exist that way anymore. TV has also changed in that respect.

Yes but TGS really defied BO gravity. It's run was overshadowed by Jumanji doing huge business but it was one of a kind run. Also remember that this wasn't a movie that had platform release to build buzz it was straight up a classic run one in all time great runs

Jeez it was right there in front of me.

Best multiplier for a wide debut release since Titanic, right?

That's what I can remember as of now. It missed Titanic's multiplier by a few millions but then TGS didn't have the Oscar support to help it's legs

Yet, Thursday is down only 23%.

Any 40% after LD is always good.

It also depends on how the overall weekend pans out due to competition and other factors. 4 out of 8 is what I'd call average in the end. It's definitely not one of those gravity defying holds it showed part 2 weeks.
