Happytime Murders screams misfire to me.

Me too. Odd how they have not taken advantage of its concept through the marketing, and now on the eve of its release there seems to be no buzz. It should have probably also been given a more prime spot in the summer.

I'll join the chorus. The Happytime Murders seemed brilliant on paper: a comic star who has prominently featured in five 100m hits (six counting the third Hangover) + Sesame Street-style puppets being filthy. It had the potential to be this year's Sausage Party or even a mini-Ted. But now it is just coming out with no apparent fanfare.

A.X.L. reminds me of Monster Trucks. Hopefully they didn't spend 125 million dollars on this one, though.

I wonder how wide/limited Papillon is opening. It has the feel of one of those quiet quasi-wide releases, à la Anthropoid two summers ago or The Man Who Invented Christmas last fall.

The Happytime Murders - 14 million
A.X.L. - 7

Definitely feels like Anthropoid. That's a good comparison.

A.X.L. is definitely bombing. Hard. I think zwackerm is in the right vicinity.

Happytime Murders will probably do around 14 Million.

I'd be surprised if THM opens more than $15M. Meanwhile, AXL looks like it will open similar to Max Steel.

The faith-based movie Beautifully Broken could do some solid numbers this weekend. Over 38,000 likes on Facebook is solid for a smaller movie and it's looking to open in over 1,000 theaters. Both of my theaters are getting it and one doesn't get anything if it's in less than 1,000 theaters. They also have Thursday night showings for it. Maybe it will be a mini War Room.

Happyime reviews are pretty rough. McCarthy has been review proof in the past, but I don’t see her usual audience showing up for this weird project that’d be more up my alley if it looked good.

Happytime Murders is on the MoviePass list for the entire weekend now. As of yesterday, it was only going to be on Thursday/Friday's list for opening day, so maybe that will help counter the poor reviews a bit.

Probably available all weekend because MoviePass knows nobody wants to see it.

Lol at the RottenTomatoes summary calling Happytime Murders "intriguingly transgressive". MTV was doing R rated puppets a decade ago. It will bomb because it's a tired gag at this point and it doesn't even look funny. Also, Melissa McDouble is over.

Well at least she'll be nominated for an Oscar this year.

Can we get a sequel to The Heat now please?
