$233.3m is the mark. Unless my math is off.

I’ve been hyped for this from the moment that Split ended. And I think the marketing has done an excellent of selling that feeling. It will be a must-see event picture and we’ve seen how those types blow up past all expectations. The main counter point is that not enough people have seen both Split and Unbreakable. But I think people will catch up on both just so they can see Glass.

I think it will do well, but not that well. I'm out, unfortunately.

Second trailer is great. This club is gonna happen easily. Now I’m just hoping we can finally get our $100M January opening.

I haven't seen the new trailer (care to post it?) but I'm still out.

I'd be really shocked if this opened above 80m, let alone 100m. It looks very good but Unbreakable isn't that big in terms of relevance in pop culture. We'll see though, anything above 50m would be very good.

I don't see that kind of success for this film, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if it comes in under Split. The trailer only has 11m views, less than half what the Split trailer had. I think the marketing has started off on the wrong foot, acting as if Unbreakable is some iconic film and everyone remembers Bruce Willis' character when it's largely forgotten. The trailer is also bland and unexciting in the first place, plus the scene with McAvoy and the tied up girls, which would've been the main hook ('Split 2' is a way easier sell than 'Unbreakable 2') makes it look like a cheap rehash of the first film. The poster is also ugly and cheap-looking and doesn't make it obvious that it's a Split follow-up.

Idk, I want Shyamalaman to come back and succeed and I liked both Unbreakable and Split, but I just detect a lot of problems with the way they're presenting this film.

Yes, perfectly put.

Reviews are out... mostly negative. So weird, really intrigued to see it.

This could end up below Split if its not well regarded.

Hmm figured it would at least match the MC 62% of Split. That’s a bummer.

Yeah the early reviews for this are really disappointing. If general audiences react the same way this could very easily end up dying after the OW.

This could very well be a $70m (4-day)/$140m type deal.

It could still pull a Venom and just do well anyways. I’m definitely not as confident anymore though.

Eh, people enjoyed Venom because it was kinda fun. From what I see about Glass, it seems like it drops the ball in the second half.

It looked weird and uncomfortable from the trailers so I'm not surprised. Shyamalan can't make a good movie without a self contained high concept plot (kid who sees dead people! aliens attack rural family! monsters hunt amish village! creepy grandparents! crazy dude with 23 personalities!).

Would not be surprised at a sub $30m OW tbh. People just don't remember/care about Unbreakable, they're focusing too much of Jackson and Willis and not enough on McAvoy. A straight up Split sequel would have done $50m+ easily.

Nah, I don't see this dropping below 30m opening. I think the interest is definitely there but having the reviews out more than a week in advance will hurt buzz.

The reviews will probably stop this from going to those heights but I still see a 45m+ 4-day. Legs will probably be horrible though.

I'm probably cheating by chiming in after mediocre reviews but I'm out

Wonder if Glass will actually show up on MT today?

Fail. Probably won’t even top Split now. It could even miss $100M with that projected weakend.

Obviously the reviews killed a lot of the buzz but that’s what happens when you bank on the MNS. And Venom showed that if people were truly hyped for the movie they would have come out anyways.

It's not nearly as good as they will spin it.

So much for this club. This is going to struggle even topping Split at this point.

With the $20m budget it's hardly a bust. Definitely had the potential to be huge though, keen to see it this weekend.

Post subject:  Re: Glass > Split + Unbreakable Club

I wasn't big on Split and the reviews for Glass made it an easy pass.

I liked Split and have always rooted for Shyamalan but I'm not spending $13 on something with a sub 40% RT score.
