Re: The Joker (2019)
Too many jokers. It's losing its importance with each failed attempt. Will be harder to make this feel special, no matter how good the performance may be.

Maybe setting up THE BATMAN to be Bats v. Joker part 3? 1989, 2008, 2021?

Nah. It's over. Joker ain't special anymore. And isn't Leto getting a Joker flick too?
You can kiss any hope of this or any other joker movie breaking records goodbye.

You can kiss any hope of this or any other joker movie breaking records goodbye. TBH I suspect Ledger was too iconic and TDK too beloved for anybody to even attempt the character for a long time. 2016 was too soon.

I disagree, Suicide Squad opened really well and a huge reason for it was the Joker. He was the most recognizable character in the ensemble by far. And people seemed to like him in the role, he was more cartoony than Ledger's Joker but was even more intense in some ways. I honestly think the Dark Knight trilogy has suffered a bit from being too gritty and realistic. Ledger's Joker doesn't feel as iconic today as we all thought it would end up being in 2008, at least from my vantage point.

Re: The Joker (2019)
Ledger's is the most iconic portrayal, mainly because he died. My favourite by far is still Nicholson. Nothing even compares.

I’m okay with this. A cheap (superheroe standard) stand-alone movie with a great actor. Hell yah!

Re: The Joker (2019)
I love Joaquin Phoenix, but I find this project so bizarre on a branding level. Jared Leto will continue to play the Joker in the DC Extended Universe films. This is a Joker prequel...but not a prequel to any other cinematic interpretation of the Joker. So there will be two unrelated veins of Joker movies, and Warner Bros. expects audiences to understand, "Oh, those are the main DC movies, and this is a 'DC Dark' standalone, but maybe it will get its own sequel if it earns a lot of money."
Marvel has navigated a few casting changes (War Machine, Bruce Banner), but this would more akin to them green-lighting a standalone Captain America movie with Matt Damon in the role.

Re: The Joker (2019)
Phoenix is a really promising choice for The Joker, but I also remember saying the same about Leto and we all know how that turned out. It's going to be such a fucking mess having this and Leto's standalone movie existing at the same time. I think we need to at least wait to see a trailer or some photos before making any predictions for this.

Re: The Joker (2019)
Are we sure Leto is even going to play Joker again? He wasn't happy with his role and I could see him bailing. Didn't he sign on to play Morbius?

Re: The Joker (2019)
I don't think Leto will get his own movie. But I think it's still possible he makes appearances as his version.
But if he does continue, they need to retool his looks. He was fine as the character, but the look of it just didn't work.

Re: Joker - October 4, 2019
I think this is a good move for WB - only if they scrap any other Leto Joker movies. You can't have two Jokers at the same time.

Re: Joker - October 4, 2019
By the time this is out it will be just 3 years since Leto's Joker. That's not long enough, in my opinion. If Suicide Squad was a $75m grosser, it would be fine, but it made over $320m. I think they need to wait longer. But of course, we know DC cannot wait to do anything once they have an idea in their heads. Not to mention there's still another Leto Joker movie in the mix. And the castings seem good on face value, especially Phoenix, but how good are they really? As far as I'm aware, De Niro has never done a comic-book movie, but he did do The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, so I'm sure he'll be excellent And you can get all the talent in the world, if the production team is shit you'll get a bad movie. Martin Scorsese being co-producer sounds good, but Todd Phillips to co-write, produce, and direct? I'm sorry, is this a comedy? Why get the director of Starsky & Hutch and The Hangover trilogy in on this thing? And to make it even worse, he is writing with .... the re-writer of X-Men Origins: Wolverine. lol WB/DC have a track record of ruining their movies, so I'm not convinced at all that this will be any different.

Re: Joker - October 4, 2019
There is no such thing as an iconic Joker.
People still love Jack, and even Caesar. Then of course there is Mark. It really depends on your generation. Leto and Ledger were too similar for me, I'm really looking forward to interpretation.

Hmm, artsy poster. Nice. Marketing has never been the problem for DC.

I think the film itself will be more artsy than people are expecting. This looks great.
