Am I the only one that was creeped out by Stallone's hand in that poster? It looks almost alien, and because the thumb is doing whatever the hell it is, it looks like he only has 4 fingers.

Finally found numbers for Thailand. It opened 21-24 June at #3 with 4.84 million Thai Baht, which is $145k. It stayed in the Top Ten for 14 days where it finished with 8.43 million Baht, which is $253,683.

As a comparison, Skyscraper just opened there and its opening weekend was $560k. Future World also just opened there and its opening was $17k. So Escape Plan 2 didn't do too badly.

It opened at #4 in Malaysia, so probably not the $200k I was hoping for. Probably more likely just $100k.

It's called Escape Plan 2: Inferno in Italy. I much prefer that to Hades, even if it is a tad generic.

I don't see the connection to "Inferno". I think Hades is not a bad title, named after the "unbreakable" prison in the film after all.

Well, "inferno" in Italian means "hell" in English, so it's both a perfect translation and a more marketable term at the same time. Hades was the God of the underworld, or in other words...God of hell. So that's the connection.

Ah yeah, cool. Usually they translate the titles in Germany too, wonder if Hades got that treatment.

Strangely, not heard anything about a German release yet. No VOD or DVD or theatrical. Maybe they just got it when the US got it on VOD. I wonder if that's how it works. When it's on Netflix or Vulu, is that worldwide?

Just read (though from an unconfirmed source) that it will be released in Brazil on 20th July. That would be excellent. Unlikely, because none of South America has had it yet, but let's hope.

Very odd in the UK. It is not showing at any of the major chains (Odeon, VUE, Showcase, Cineworld), and it's not in a single London cinema. That's probably 95% of cinemas. Was there really any point putting "in cinemas" on the poster? Jesus, just release it VOD and be done with it.

Regardless, for Escape Plan 3: Devil's Station, they need to learn from this and just release it VOD worldwide. Don't even bother with theatrical, even if the film is good. Well, maybe in China, but everywhere else there is no point. Nobody will give it a chance because the second has killed any chance.

Maybe its UK release has been postponed. I've even checked smaller, more independent cinema chains such as Picture Houses, Regal Cinemas, and Merlin Cinemas. That's about 50 cinemas total, and still not one showtime.

One cinema even had showtimes for Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings. :funny:

Ok, so it seems Signature Entertainment struck a deal with one small cinema chain, Reel Cinemas. Thanks to David for finding this out. And so it is playing in 10 cinemas for 7 days, each with one showtime per day. So, 70 showtimes in the UK and it'll be done. It feels very much a contractual obligation-type deal. I do feel a bit conned by the poster's "in cinemas", though technically it's not incorrect.

For everyone else, they'll have to make do with iTunes and Sky.

Jesus. So it absolutely plummeted in Portugal in its 3rd weekend. It lost 75% of its cinemas and dropped 87.1%, so it's done in Portugal. Won't even hit $100k.

It's a similar story in Turkey where it lost 76% of its cinemas and thus dropped 82.2%, but it had already racked up a decent gross of $304,118 (first did $374,984), so it's not too bad.

In the UK, from just 10 cinemas (all of which were showing it just once per day for a total of 30 showings over its opening weekend) it unsurprisingly bombed with just $8,857 (£6,737). It ranked #30 for the weekend.

So I just found out that it was released yesterday (26th July) in Slovakia. Hopefully that also means Czech Republic got it. And the date that IMDB had for Italy is wrong. Comes out much sooner on 22nd August.

I saw someone post about it being in cinemas in Curacao, so perhaps that's a sign that its Latin/South American roll-out is beginning to happen. Though nothing official has been posted anywhere.

So last weekend 6,061 people saw it when it opened in the CZECH REPUBLIC at #7 with $42,199 on 61 screens. Escape Plan also opened on 61 screens back in 2013, but managed $113k.

It also opened in SLOVAKIA at #3 with $31,353 at 60 cinemas. Escape Plan opened at #5 with $41k, so Hades did well in Slovakia, with 4,680 admissions. It also opened in LITHUANIA where it ranked #7 on 89 screens with a paltry $7,442.

Cool updates must have been a lot of research to get information on those small markets.

It was released on DVD, Blu-Ray and Video on Demand 3 days ago in The Netherlands.

So it opened in Italy to $340k in 5 days. First did $770k in 3. It will still become the film's 3rd highest-grossing market, though. Not bad.
