Incredibles 2 - $120m
Tag - $8m

I might see Tag if it stays in theaters for more than two weeks. The Jun 29th weekend is very weak.

I think Incredibles 2's problem is that the marketing makes it look exactly the same as the original. The posters are indistinguishable from the first. Where are the flashy new supporting characters? Who's the new villain? I've been exposed to months of marketing for it and I still can't tell. At least Dory had the whole aquarium setting that made it stand apart from the first one. It's still going to open huge, but I don't think as huge as it could've been.

Incredibles 2: $120m

I think there's something to this. The real hook that an Incredibles sequel always had is what can Jack Jack do, which will save it from bad marketing, which overall hasn't done a great job of instilling the excitement of what an Incredibles sequel could be.

I still think the lack of major animated films this year is going to allow Incredibles to EXPLODE. On top of that it has more appeal to adults than Dory so will work for both families and adults with no kids.

$135m+ in play.

Tag - I always thought could be a sleeper. I havnt seen much buzz though which is a bit of a concern. Perhaps a $12-15m OW and good legs thereafter.

So, Gotti comes out this weekend and surprisingly it's in 503 cinemas. It will probably be Vertical Entertainment's highest-grossing release after its first weekend alone, but that's not saying much. I hope it can do solid business, but I'm really not sure what to expect. Perhaps $1k PTA is doable? I'll set that as the line.

Good thing they didn't start it in just a couple theaters. With those toxic reviews there would be no hope of it expanding well. I can't see it doing very well going wide either but with bad reviews they're better off just releasing it wide and cutting their losses. I wonder why there was such a huge push to save this film from its intended VOD release and give it a wide theatrical release. It clearly doesn't seem worthy of one.

Agreed. I think just because it has Travolta and seems more easy to market than their other films. They probably thought people would turn up for that reason alone.
