I wonder how different this holiday would've looked like if Solo came out in December instead. Would it still have done so poorly? It probably would've done at least 30m+ more with the holidays and I bet less films (especially Bumblebee) would not have released this time.

So hard to even view Solo as a threat knowing what we know about how it performed.

Solo would have made closer to $300m (still poor by SW standards) if released in December - simply due to the distance away from Ep 8 which was a key issue for it.

It hurt the opening (although the franchise is in decline anyway) but the holidays can expand the marketplace for all movies. People have an opportunity to see whatever they really want to even with so many options. You just can’t compare any other week of the year in terms of the quantity and depth of the BO grosses.
