October simply has never had a film with this kind of potential before. So yes, I absolutely expect to double that meaningless record.

People do stay away because at those times it's back to work/back to school after a big break, and people are concentrating on other things besides entertainment. That's why summer weekdays and winter holidays are huge, because people are not at school or work as much. This is why studios generally do not release big films in these months because, while they can break out, films are less likely to do so.

Re: Venom $100m OW club It's also about the trend. Feb VD weekend, Jan with horror and patriotic movies have worked well now. IT just blew off but I don't think it will be replicated anytime soon. Not even with IT 2.

Re: Venom $100m OW club Well, It: Chapter 2 will act like Deadpool 2. And while January and October have produced some high openings, it's still a far cry from the $100m+ opening that all other months have achieved.

Especially if Halloween breaks out like it is set to do (which will hurt legs and take away buzz). Halloween isn't going to do half as well as KJ thinks it is. It's basically a remake of H2O, there is only so much they can hype that up. Remember how the trailer was supposed to be this amazing thing and then it sort of came and went? People have seen that movie before too many times. Venom is fresh. And no one remembers Spider-Man 3 thankfully.

Re: Venom $100m OW club Its better for me because they are real people and the movie's animation of Venom tied to the movie and not just random images from comic books that look nothing like the movie. And I like that the V in paint is also placed as tentacles for Venom.

Re: Venom $100m OW club In general I prefer less exposure to my marketing. This shows too much. Definitely going for the teenager crowd that will jizz in their pants at the site of Venom on a poster. I actually like the comic-book posters you mention. Venom is a comic-book character, and it's good to see them not forget his origin...unlike, for example, the MCU.

I like that MCU is building the superhero identities close to their movies while still maintaining the balance with comic books. That's most likely the reason they have kept the people interested in these characters for so long.

For Venom, a silhouette would be fine, rather than showing Venom full-on. And there is absolutely no need to have the actors on the poster. It shows desperation - don't they know that actors don't sell movies anymore? - and it just looks generic. The film will not show you Venom immediately, and neither should the poster.
