Last weekend IW's chances of $700m evaporated.

Solo's box office reminds me of Fantastic Beasts. Big without playing on the stratospheric level of the films from which it is spun off.

I think it's opening is much lower in comparison to previous SW movies and it's going to end up outside of Top 10 if its frontloaded.

Very disappointing for Solo. Looks like J.J. Abrams has his work cut out for him to return Star Wars at the top of the food chain. I bet he wishes for a Deadpool post credit sequence of "Turn back time" and re-do TLJ and not have Luke Skywalker go our like a bitch.

I can't believe At World's End record has stood for 11 years. And we all made fun of it at the time.

Adjusted for inflation, it did $170m over the 3-day (since Thursday previews are now the norm and get counted into the weekend, I'm going to do the same with AWE) and $204m over the 4-day. Maybe Aladdin will break that next year?

Pirates was the 2nd biggest franchise in the world at that time, just a tad behind Spider-man.

Pirates 2 opening with inflation and 3D is in the $230m range.

Luke can 100% return if they wish. The Jedi use magic - they can do whatever they want with him from a story perspective. Has a Jedi ever broadcast himself across the galaxy? They can easily bring Luke if they wish and frankly Lucasfilm would be retarded not to.

If Abrams had not been so busy sucking off ANH when making TFA, they wouldn't be in this position.

If only this forces Disney to shut shop on Boba Fett and the Obi Wan origin films. Those projects are even more redundant than a Solo film.

What is funny is the McGregor-Obi Wan film, IMO, was the most obvious choice for these spinoff movies. The actor was beloved in the role, is the right age, and there is a lot of potential there.

As was already suggested, SOLO never should have happened and it should be OBI-WAN coming out this December.

I am actually looking forward to the Boba Fett film. Never been a fan of Obi or Han Solo, so obviously don't care for those. But Fett is a) a baddie (and I love baddies), and b) masked (so anyone can play him and the connections can be seamless).

I'd think an Obi-Wan movie would do even worse had it been in this position. Less accessible (spinoff of a prequel) and just as unnecessary. He's not gonna do anything story-wise that's cinematic on a Star Wars scale.

Fans are just saying they want one just because Disney isn't giving it to them. Internet is way louder amd way less representative of real audiences.

Morgan Freeman just got Me Too'd. There is talk that his part will be recast and reshot in Nutcracker.

So solo only made 4m more on it’s true Friday than Pirates 5

There was a point in time where Pirates was bigger than Star Wars, after all (2003-2006).

So its confirmed to have an opening lower than $100m. $22.4m "true" Friday is BAD BAD number. The Cinemascore being lower than other SW movies suggest that the WoM isn't strong enough as well to see HUGE Saturday and Sunday jumps. Those pre-sales figures were REALLY OFF in this case.

"True" Friday is $21.5m.

I miscalculated with $36.5m instead of $35.6m

As I continue to see it's % drop today on movietickets.com, I will finally admit that this is a disappointing performance. It may still turn out that it is leggier over the next few weeks than other Star Wars movies, but I am disappointed.

I wouldn't mind an Obi-Wan movie though, especially with Ewan returning.

Very soon I could see see Memorial Day weekend becoming a weekend of holdovers and studios waiting to release major movies until the week after.

Maybe animation should open over Memorial Day, like Thanksgiving.

So... Deadpool 2 probably won’t cross 300m and Solo probably won’t last hit 240. Yeesh.

They really should’ve put one of these in August. Had Infinity War stayed in May I wonder if these 2 would have done worse.

Deadpool 2 was like, such an ideal August movie. It's ridiculous.
