Good opening for Deadpool but definitely nothing special or nothing to remember. A lot of people thought it wouldn't open above the first one so that's not shocking but opening below the low end of tracking is. Definitely was front-loaded.

It was always going to be tough to out-open the first. It wasn't a normal opening for a potential franchise. It opened mega-big. Black Panther 2 will face the same issue. But Deadpool 2 still did well in terms of general R-rated openings. It won't hit the first's total or even come close.

Deadpool 2's numbers aren't bad by any means, but I just can't help but feel underwhelmed by it either. This decrease shows there was basically no growth at all, and I expected this to at least have more upfront demand with no holiday effect. An opening surpassing Deadpool shouldn't have been that hard, but as we suspected before the novelty just wasn' t there this time and the marketing was definitely lacking something IMO. Good hold for IW and it will likely go up with actuals and about what I expected for Book Club. I'm sure most including me wouldn't have thought an opening in the double digits would even happen until we saw those pre-sales this week.

Damn! Black Panther got gutted this weekend (-60%) by the 1,2 punch of DP2 and physical release.

Decent for DP2 but with that Friday number I thought it could top the originals opening.

IW should have held better.

Book club getting double digits is a win.

That was pretty much expected. I think 60% is a good hold under the circumstances.

Deadpool 2 - good opening. A bit frontloaded, but that was to be expected.

Book Club - Thought it might go higher with the opening day #, but a good opening anyway. Should at least play well as counter-programming over the holiday.

Show Dogs - estimates put it at the 13th worst opening in over 3000 theaters. That actually could have ended up much worse.

Good hold for Avengers, interested in it's hold going against Solo over the holiday.

Fun to see Super Troopers 2 lose 65% of it's theaters and increase 12% over last weekend, I assume due to double features with Deadpool.

DP2 opened to over 300m WW. Wonder if that was better than DP?

Kind of hoped Book Club might do a bit better but it will be leggy I'm sure. Odd to see it drop on Saturday though. You wouldn't think it would have a "rush out" factor.

This had a pretty ideal set up for a sequel -- popular and well-liked predecessor, great ad campaign, little competition (the #2 movie is only doing $28m) -- and it decreased from the first. I think this shows Deadpool 1 maxed out the audience for it, especially thanks to Valentine's Day falling on the Sunday and boosting it massively that day.

It will do better overseas and overall most likely. I think it was does show is the over saturation of three big movies in May. Something should have moved.

This sequel did not increase its marketing (and therefore interest) to new heights. In fact, I believe it lowered them. Which I think contributes to why it dropped.

Also the drop of DP2 is not big enough to say that holiday weekend didn't play it's part in originals opening.

Not that anyone cares but Avengers: Infinity War becomes only 8th movie (unadjusted) to reach past $600m on Tuesday. Disney now has THREE movies in past 6 months to cross $600m mark domestically.
