It's still his most well-known role. But actors are lucky in this day and age that these superhero characters are larger than the actors that play them, which means people like Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner can play them but not have it spoil their careers ala Christopher Reeve, Lou Ferrigno, and Adam West.

Yep its not like RDJ's career is ruined because of MCU or Bale after TDK series. Cavill will definitely still be known as Superman for sometime till he really does that takes away the memory of DCEU but I won't bet on it and he will continue to get movies regardless.

As good as the trailers have been it wouldn't surprise me if this didn't crack $200M. I'm actually not expecting it too, but it would be awesome if it did.

I don't think typecasting is really as much a thing as people make it out to be. Lou Ferrigno was a professional body-builder with rough features and a speech impediment. I don't think there's any universe where he's competing with Warren Beatty or Robert Redford for roles.

I think it's kind of a chicken-or-the-egg thing. The kind of qualities that makes you good for a superhero--an ethereal sort of physicality, might make you unbelievable as say, a worn-down beat cop or a hacker unlucky in love. This is why Downey and Ruffalo have done the best--because the characters can be "normal" for most of their acting scenes, an don't require demi-gods to play them.

So, don't believe I've seen this scene in the trailers. Is this the crazy Tom Cruise stunt for this installment?

Interesting to see a new stunt even though not a fan of that poster.

That scene makes a brief appearance in the most recent trailer.

I don't like this poster as much each, it might be him free falling from a plan, but it just doesn't look spectacular like that. This poster seems just to promote it as a "Real D 3D" film, well it wouldn't pull me in like that. I don't even know what is "Real D" actually.

RealD created the technology where you have 3D but without the red/blue glasses.

Box office pro currently estimates an opening in the 75-80m range.

Cruise is nuts. Can't believe he really was strapped to a plane in Rogue Nation

Just seen a trailer for it on YouTube. It's a countdown trailer. It starts at 00:05 and counts down seconds ending in a helicopter rolling down a snowy mountain towards Cruise in another helicopter. Anyway, I just thought it looked awesome. Going to be the true action film of the year.

Love this poster.

Interesting that this film doesn't seem to have an identity this time around. Lots of posters all looking different. No common style among any of them. It feels like it is clinging on the coattails of the previous two, at least in terms of its marketing.

Halo jumping poster = Shit. He did it 80+ times in real life, but with his face plastered on poorly you’d never believe it.

That helicopter one though is great. The only thing fake about it is maybe the helicopter and gunfire in the background. Otherwise that’s just a photograph of him doing that stunt.

It's interesting how this franchise got back on it's feet with Ghost Protocol, after a critically disappointing film 11 years before, and a box office disappointment sandwiched in between.

I don't see this franchise as ever having a bad installment. It's always made money. It's always been liked by critics or fans, most times both. I don't think there is anything to warrant a "this franchise got back on its feet" angle. :P

Tracking is 60-75. All I’m getting from this is slightly over 200.

That'd be a win. Three consecutive movies around the $200m is not common in any franchise.

In that way I'd say it differs from the Fast and Furious then.

And in that way it's pretty impressive the Fast and Furious has been able to do it 4 films in a row already.

See it how you will, but I am less impressed when a Fast flick does it. It's made for morons, and there's about 200 million of those in the US.
