Blockers - 23 A Quiet Place - 23
I still find it hilarious the Miracle Season played in front of Last Jefi each time I saw it.

Re: April 6-8 Predictions
This is actually a pretty exciting weekend, with two original films with easy-to-sell premises and great reviews. Been a while since we had a weekend like this. Not entirely sure where they'll open yet, but I'm thinking $20-25 million for both, but hoping for $25+ million.

Re: April 6-8 Predictions
I'm predicting A Quiet Place does $50+ million in its opening.
Alien horror can definitely sell. Signs' opening adjusts to $95 million today. A Quiet Place has all the signs of being a big, accessible event horror film, no?

i.hope wrote: A Quiet Place - 35 Blockers - 20 The Miracle Season - 4 Chappaquiddick - 2 I have high hopes for the two major openers. But people usually do not rush to the movies so soon after a long weekend. So my predictions may be a little on the optimistic side.

Re: April 6-8 Predictions
Chappaquiddick is not going to be a huge flop. The story it dramatizes still resonates with older Americans, and it is receiving a healthy TV-spot promotional push.
Blockers - 27 A Quiet Place - 26 Chappaquiddick - 9 The Miracle Season - 4

Reminds me more of 10 Cloverfield Lane or maybe Don't Breathe. Signs was Gibson and Shyamalan at the height of their powers, and it was positioned as a huge summer movie.

Re: April 6-8 Predictions
I think Evil Dead is a good comparison but it should go higher with the friendlier rating and broader appeal. A gory horror film will only appeal to so many. Casual genre fans and even non genre fans will likely be interested this. Still, that opened the same weekend with strong excitement and good reviews. This will have even better reviews.

I hope we see a breakout. April needs to have breakouts upfront to get the record for biggest April.

A Quiet Place - 25 Blockers - 20 The Miracle Season - 5 Chappaquiddick - 2
I honestly don't know what to expect from A Quiet Place. I am hoping it is a big breakout and does $30M+ like some are predicting, but the buzz for it is hard gauge. I do believe though that even with middling openings it and Blockers should have good WOM and be more legs based throughout the month.

A Quiet Place has something 10 Cloverfield Lane and Don't Breathe do not - real-life celebrity couple playing a couple. It is a great gimmick and the star powers will get the film much more media attention than the other two. The "stay silent to survive" concept is so easy to grasp and inherently associated with the horror genre. $50m+ may be too much but an OW gross more than Split ($40m) won't surprise me.

Why all the high predictions for A Quiet Place? Feels like I'm definitely missing something.

It has an easy to grasp concept, an accessible rating, great reviews, is opening over 3000 theaters, and the last scary movie to open over 11M was Insidious 3 months ago. It has a lot going for it. That said, I think the predictions are getting overblown and anything over 20M would be really good for it.

Yeah while I see it breaking out those $30m+ predictions for AQP seems out of reach.

I think $20m+ OW is expected for AQP and not considered a breakout.

Re: April 6-8 Predictions
Yes I too think $20m should happen for AQP. Blockers should do mid-teens but could do better.

Re: April 6-8 Predictions
8 min of Fandango watching:
A Quiet Place - 104 Blockers - 30 Chappaquiddick - 11 The Miracle Season - 6
Blockers needs to pick up the pace now or it won't do much more than $13m OW. Not too shabby for Chappaquiddick. It could do $3m or more OW.

Re: April 6-8 Predictions
Deadline's tracking for AQP and Blockers seems pretty reasonable to me. Mid 20's for the former and mid teens to low 20's for the latter. Of course, AQP could go higher, but I'm really not seeing these crazy $40-$50M predictions.
