Wrinkle's in a bit of trouble. No way it hits $50m. Nobody cares about the rest.

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
I think the tepid early word on Wrinkle will prevent it from passing 50m

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
Wrinkle is getting no buzz whatsoever with less than a week left before opening will be lucky to get to $30m. Presales have been non existent and it hasn't entered the top ticket sales on MovieTickets.com

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
Yeah no way is WIT hitting $50M. I was already pessimistic about the movie before, because of the lackluster trailers, but that on top of the weak buzz and what's likely going to be very mixed reviews has me more than convinced its going to be another Tomorrowland/John Carter type misfire.

Am I the only one seeing a $10 million potential for Heist?
I think it could be another small hit for Entertainment Studios.

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
It is well past, but there was a time when a Strangers sequel might have done quite well. The first, I feel, is fairly well-regarded as a mainstream scary movie. But so much time has passed, and the Purge pictures have run with similar iconography and a catchier premise. (It annoys me how the voice-over in the TV spots just refers to it as "THE STRANGERS" again, with Prey at Night in tiny lettering.)
Gringo is the classic dark-action-comedy flop. Reminds me of a mid-2000s movie such as Lucky Number Slevin or Running Scared or last year's Free Fire. If it is a good movie, it can be a cult favorite down the road.
A Wrinkle in Time reminds me a bit of The BFG. Despite having the right ingredients (a few big stars, the Disney brand, a respected literary source, high-gloss fantasy imagery), I am not sure how -appealing- it is. And it feels caught in a bit of a grey zone: too intense and high-concept for children, too goofy for adults.

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
In the end Wrinkle perhaps opened TOO close to Black Panther. Disney a victim of its own success on this one. I think David's assessment is correct - it is indeed caught in that grey zone. I suspect a solid but underwhelming OW is on the cards with a total in the $80-$120m zone.

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
I meant more broadly, in terms of how it is entering the marketplace. Obviously it is similar to those in content and setting...the one is even called Get the Gringo in certain markets.

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
A Wrinkle in Time does seem like a movie that would have more walkups than presales at the very least.

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
Black Panther: $36m A Wrinkle in Time: $30m The Strangers Prey at Night: $10m
Disney's hyper aggressive marketing will save A Wrinkle in Time from a truly floptacular performance, but it's going to lose money.

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
Based on the look of the trailer, A Wrinkle in Time is either visually challenging or visually challenged. It looks like something fresh and different from the rest of March blockbusters. But it is Disney, so I am leaning on "visually challenged".

Re: March 9-11 Pedictions
I knew A Wrinkle in Time would be difficult to adapt. But now it seems unfilmable after this seemingly failed attempt and the knowingly failed 2003 attempt.
