It is a reboot that nobody really asked for, and it's based on a computer game (which seriously limits its appeal and box office). Vikander is no Jolie - no star draw, not American, and not even a decent rack! And come on, the film just looks kind of 'throwaway' with a complete absence of a 'must-see' status, like Assassin's Creed (which would have died with less than $25m if not for Christmas). I do not even think the marketing for Tomb Raider is going for that whole feminist thing either, so I don't see it tapping into the recent female empowerment movement. It can even open to $17m+ and miss $45m (ala Max Payne, Resident Evil, Legion, Valerian, Need for Speed, Rambo, Speed Racer).

I'm not sure, I think it will do less than Pacific Rim 2...and this club could be close, but I think it manages to go over even just, so OUT.

This is definitely looking like a flop but I'm not sure it will flop THAT badly. Even the awful Tomb Raider sequel (not that the first was great) did more than that, and there's been like 15 years of inflation since.

This could definitely happen, especially if it opens under $20M. I see it going over though and finishing around $45-$50M domestic, so I'm OUT for now.

Definitely more plausible than PR under $37m, but I think it gets to $60m.

Just cant see why this was made (other than perhaps overseas). Plus Jolie is too iconic in the role for this to be accepted so soon.

The last one came out 15 years ago and made less than half of the original ($65m vs. $131m). I think you and MadGez (only because he used the word iconic) might be overestimating Jolie's appeal, at least in America.

What's funny though is that my argument could easily be a plus for the "Out" argument. If people quickly lost interest in Lara Croft as a movie character with the biggest actress at the time at the helm, why are they going to start caring again all of a sudden?

So the film isn't trash and better than Jolie's version (both of them). But I still fell this won't do much as the appeal for the character isn't much. I do feel this will do really well in OS and make its budget, but domestically it will flop.

Hunger Games, Frozen, Star Wars, Wonder Woman, ... so yes.

I'm not sure that people need another girl shooting a bow and arrow, which is like every 3rd female led action movie it seems. But I think there is a desire for another treasure hunt type movie. And Vikander looks the part a lot more than so many female stars who do action roles. I don't think at this point anyone cares much about the Jolie legacy of this property.

Doesn’t seem like it, but I think there’s interest from the older male crowd that powered Jolie’s versions. Not as dependable an audience, but I can’t see it flopping this badly anymore. Especially with the underperformance of Wrinkle, the weak tracking of Ready Player One and the apathy felt towards Pacific Rim. $25m opening.

I know this is based off that Tomb Raider game where she doesn't use guns (I think), but her not using guns is a bit of a disappointment. And I only just realised it.

This looks Terrible, if it looked great maybe AC numbers.

I don't think it'll break 30 million.I'd be bold to say it doesn't even pass 14 that Transporter ReFuckeditup did. But I think it can still muster a 9-13 opening.
