That's a HOLY SHIT kind of opening weekend. I have a feeling the actuals will go up for most films.

Re: Weekend Estimates (2/16-2/18)
I think Panther will be a lot closer to $200m with actuals. $197m only requires a 16% Sunday drop, which is very doable considering spillover from an awesome Friday/Saturday and the Monday holiday should help Sunday evening shows.

Re: Weekend Estimates (2/16-2/18)
Incredible!!! Just a year and a half ago Doctor Strange opened to $85m and we we like “holy shit, how did Marvel manage to get another C-lister to open that high?” And now we are at $192m.
Obviously being the first major black superhero film helped. But what if DC managed to get Cyborg out first? Does that even get $60m? Or what if they had used Jon Stewart for the 2011 Green Latern? Does it rally people like this? I highly doubt it. I think this is the second, only to Star Wars 7, best marketing campaign for a film ever. Giving him a major role in Civil War was brilliant enough. But then they kidnap Ryan Coogler and make him direct it, giving the film an extra bit of prestige. And then you convince Kendrick Lamar, only the hottest musician in the county right now, to construct the soundtrack - ensuring that all this extra marketing, in the form of a solid 7-8 potential hit songs, is constantly blaring through the radio, spotify, youtube, nba arenas, etc... Spaces that normal movies, even Star Wars, would have a hard time penetrating. Not to mention all the excellent tv spots playing on every major television event. Well except the Superbowl, so Disney actually made another $5m off the gamble that it wasn’t necessary to do a full ad.

Really crazy opening. It's gonna be fun seeing where this ends up.
Jumanji and Showman still having 20% drops is absurd.

I think Batman 89 is extremely underrated in this regard. That marketing campaign was insane and influenced every other one that came after it.

That's insane OW for BP. Just can't believe it. I think $500m is looking highly likely now.
Brilliant weekend for holdovers as well. Jumanji and TGS keep defying gravity.

Re: Weekend Estimates (2/16-2/18)
Fucking amazing numbers for Black Panther, and its very likely that its being underestimated. I would not be surprised if the actuals have it a lot closer to $200M. I'm thinking $500M+ is definitely locked and who knows how far it will go from there. Disney/Marvel are just winning on so many different levels, and I can't even imagine how a studio like Warner Bros is feeling right now about their DC slate. It makes no sense JL was as big of a failure as it was, especially compared to success like this. I'd actually go as far to say that Marvel may just have the number 1 and 2 spots of the year locked up aswell if IW is also a $500M+ grosser.

Bow down to the new King! Actual's are going to add 7-10m more watch and see!
As much as I liked JL, this is just ridiculous
Justice League- 18weeks = 228m Black Panther- 4 Day estimate= 225m

Quote: Screen Engine/ComScore PostTrak reports 37% African-Americans attending, followed by 35% Caucasian, 18% Hispanic, and 5% Asian (they update their exit polls throughout the weekend, as they continually poll). Male/female split is 50/50.

See it in IMAX it's the best. And it ain't in 3D thank god. First 2 times saw it in Regal RPX 3D. Then when I saw it in IMAX today it was like seeing different movie. The colors popped and picture quality was perfect.

Re: Weekend Estimates (2/16-2/18)
BP could have the legs to get into the top 10 ($488m). Wow Maze Runner 3 will be profitable due to a great OS run. TGS will be profitable too. Reaching $180m DOM Jumanji will surpass $400m. Wow
