Alright Rolling Thunder, what are sales like for the openers?

Saw Game Night yesterday, it is fun. Will have good legs. It is basically an R-rated version of Date Night, with a bit of The Game mixed into it.

Game Night looking good for mid teens, $16m+ based on comparable sales here. It really picked up last night, which is a promising sign.

Annihilation is DOA, single digits won't surprise me.

Just a few sold for Every Day, tracking is probably spot on in the low single digit.

A shame about Annihilation. Hopefully reviews can help increase interest this weekend.

I really thought the marketing would have tricked more people to see Annihilation. To the unsuspecting eye, it is a monster sci-fi action film. But yeah, apparently it is not so mainstream as early reviews pointed out. And Joe Popcorn is still preoccupied with Black Pants.

Still will be surprised if it doesn't do somewhat well. It has a female lead. Where are all the feminists?

Their hands are tied with Fifty Shades Freed ;).

But really it's not like Black Panther isn't attracting everyone. It's getting a strong portion of females. Then there's Game Night this weekend and to a lesser extent you still have The Greatest Showman pulling in a few people. It's honestly really bad timing opening after Black Panther. On a weekend without such intense competition and those reviews I think it would have opened decently.

Its a shame that two well reviewed films are coming out this week of all weeks.

But let's face it - Annihilation was always going to be a hard sell. I'd be happy if it can open to $10m.

3.7% of ticket sales for Game Night and 2.2% for Annihilation doesn't seem great. Not for Game Night anyway. Expected for Annihilation. Game Night is running behind Fifty Shades currently.

Though I don't really know how Peter Rabbit has 10.1% which is way more than Fifty Shades and FS is doing better during the week.

Isn't Game Night the type of film that will benefit from walk-ups? Because it is a comedy that has no preexisting brand or hype for people to want to book in advance.

Looking at Fandango, Annihilation is pacing ahead of Game Night by about 10%. It might win Thursday previews, but it depends on whether walk-in business makes a difference.

Thursday previews will make no difference for these two films anyway. When Friday night gets here, Game Night will be the clear winner.

Looks like a faceplant return for Orion. Dismal previews.
