Re: Early Thursday Preview #'s Black Panther
Dr. Lecter wrote: Less than I expected, but still terrific and should be good for a $80 million opening day. It is on par with Civil War, but I believe Civil War was more frontloaded than this will be. So $80-82 million opening day and a $190+ million 3-day weekend thanks to Presidents Day. I don't think so at all. For one, this is obviously going to be a movie of much greater interest to black audiences than usual, which notoriously heavily front-loads grosses. It's also black history month which amps up the anticipation in that demo. Two, being President's Day weekend, a lot of schools are out of session Friday. Plus some couples will have saved their Valentine's Day movie for the weekend or this film specifically. It should get the Civil War crowd in early but not at sure about casuals after that. I would predict a fairly heavily drop next weekend in the realm of 65% or so.

Couples save their Valentine's Day movie for a day other than Valentine's Day?

Will also be interesting to see what can survive BP this weekend. I think Jumanji and TGS should hold pretty well.

It looks DTV. it sure does

Here I think it was on Tuesday since that is $5 day and the theater was crazy. I went to Showman Wednesday and the theater was mostly dead.

It looks DTV. it sure does That font and all of the words on the screen coupled with the song. They're trying desperately to make it look exciting but it just looks super cheesy. They could have put together a better trailer I would think, even for this.

Even women like some superhero butt kicking.
