Re: Weekend Estimates (January 19-21, 2018)
Very solid openings for Den of Thieves and 12 Strong. I know Flava'd was pretty much right on with his $15M prediction, but was anybody else really expecting it to go that high? It just looked so damn generic to me and after Proud Mary bombed last weekend I had my doubts that another urban skewing action film with lackluster marketing could hit double digits let alone mid teens. It makes me wonder if 50 Cent's popularity with Power has something to do with it at least when it comes to his appeal with the target demo, but that didn't seem to help Proud Mary much either even though Empire is still a pretty popular show. Anyways, legs probably won't be anything special, but if the budget was reasonable it should still make a nice profit for the studio. Same for 12 Strong as well. I am glad to see Chris Hemsworth finally headline a movie that wasn't a flop and I read somewhere that the budget was only like $30M, so it should definitely be profitable, especially if it has legs and ends with a similar total to 13 Hours. Obviously, its already been said plenty of times before, but again great drops for Jumanji and TGS.
Paddington 2 also looks like it could be recovering quite a bit too.

How did Forever My Girl perform so well? That was a total surprise.

Effective, focused advertising for a family-friendly country-music type of crowd.

It's actually been a great period for 2017 holdovers (including speciality fare) and 2018 new releases so far especially in regards to legs.

I wonder how Den of Thieves would have done MLK weekend.

Paddington seems to be heading for another healthy run and there are a lot of sequels in this sub-genre that wouldn't be reach its OW so I think its fine. The expectations were on higher end for this one.

$100m crossed for PP3 which is really good after its opening some thought it won't even reach $65m total of the original.
Also $200m for Coco, FINALLY, I wished it had better legs but I guess SW, Jumanji were two big options for kids.

Re: Weekend Estimates (January 19-21, 2018)
So Sunday was over-estimated for almost all movies.
TLJ is now behind in dailies from RO and its weekend is about $700K behind it but dropped better over the weekend. The best from here on it will do is $624m which would be just above Avengers though I feel it will halt at $620m-$622m and stay at #5. It now depends on Disney which movie it wants for IW to take out from #5 position in May.

Proud Mary and Paddington the only disappointments. I'd say Proud Mary yes but Paddington will eak out a respectable gross. And to be fair, Proud Mary doesn't strike me as much more than a $30m or so grosser.

Re: Weekend Estimates (January 19-21, 2018)
Didn't knew where to put this and I didn't want to create a thread so....
Interesting set of weekdays. Monday: Monday was close but Den of Thieves won is marginally by less than $800k from 12 Strong. Jumanji #3 and The Post #4
Tuesday: 12 Strong then took over on Tuesday. Followed closely by Jumanji at #2, short of just $20K. The Post #3 and very close to it Den of Thieves at #4.
Wednesday: The Post took #1 position now with 12 Strong at #2. Following closely are Jumanji at #3 and Den of Thieves at #4
Thursday I believe Jumanji could go #1.
