Christopher Robin Predictions
This is currently scheduled to open the first weekend of August. It reminds me of Pete's Dragon, but its Hook type plotline is intriguing and the month of August is pretty open in terms of family friendly films, with only thrillers, horror and comedies opening after. And Pooh is way more iconic than Pete's Dragon. But the 2011 film didn't do much. But I think a live action version has more appeal. A 35m/125m run wouldn't surprise me.

Honestly didn't even know about this film until a few days ago. I think it can do well given the fact that its a.) Disney live action remake b.) good release slot in a weak month and c.) Pooh has a fanbase

I'm mixed on the teaser myself, but it does seem to be striking a strong note with people. This is Disney's first real "Legacy Movie" this year (is that what we're calling them?), and while it has the same release date as Pete's Dragon, the name pull on Pooh is much stronger, and August is ridiculously weak this year - it'll be the last family film of the summer, which should really boost its legs. I think the opening will appear soft compared to their bigger titles, but good legs should carry it far.
Opening: $41 million Total: $170.5 million (4.16)

Re: Christopher Robin Predictions
Once people get over the fact that Pooh looks disheveled and dirty and really just old, I think it can find an audience. But I guess it isn't going to be as fun as Paddington, and judging from Goodbye Christopher Robin, this film will struggle with just being called Christopher Robin. I think it can muster $60m.
If it was called Pooh, I'd increase it to $80-100m.

Re: Christopher Robin Predictions
Yeah what's up with that Pooh animation? It looks ugly. I like the human cast though.
The trailer was kind of effective, but just like the Marry Poppins teaser relied a little too much on nostalgia IMO. I still have no idea what this will do, because Winnie the Pooh doesn't even seem like a relevant brand anymore, and no one gave a shit about that 2D animated movie that came out in 2011. This being live action should add to the appeal and being the last big family film of the summer will definitely help, but I'm still not seeing BIG numbers just yet. If this reaches $100M or more I think Disney would be pretty satisfied with that.

If they want big numbers, they need to replace Pooh with Ted.

Ted's animation looked better than Pooh here. My first instinct was that if you are using a stuffed bear why not go with animation like that of Ted.

Can't wait! Aside from Scooby Doo, Pooh was my other fav cartoon when I was a child. Such a nice old fashion looking tease.

Pooh looks like he's about to tell Christopher he's spent a few years living on the street and just got clean

There is a reason because Pete looked better than this? The good thing is that release date is quite favourable for this.
I don’t think that’s necessarily a consensus?

This is going to open big. I see 50m with 60m as an upside. The marketing has just been stellar.

Re: Christopher Robin Predictions
It is too cutesy to open big. It might have tremendous legs and finish with a total over $120m, but I do not see it being this must-see box office breakout out of the gate.
I could be wrong, but the buzz for this seems to have really peaked after that second trailer. I don't know why, but the marketing for this feels really muted. Makes me wonder how confident Disney is in it considering no early reviews have dropped.
I don't understand the big tracking on this. 2011 Winnie the Pooh and 2003 Piglet Movie didn't do much. The 2000 Tigger Movie did okay with a 45M total. Where is the theatrical demand for something like this? The problem is the target audience is very young and the material doesn't interest older kids so box office is limited. Maybe I'll be proven wrong. But I'd guess 15M opening 50M total.
