Everything is garbage. Glad I have a lot to catch up on plus Phantom Thread and Hostiles go wide.

Won't 12 Strong and Den of thieves eat into each others business? Forever my girl won't do much as well. Hopefully the December holdovers and the sophomore films will have a great weekend after MLK.

Forever My Girl does have a surprisingly strong amount of Facebook fans. Probably fans of the book. I love Jessica Rothe but damn does it look bad. I can't muster up any interest.

12 Strong looked good a few weeks ago, but I think the 15:17 To Paris has stolen most of the hype from the ‘Murica crowd.

I still think Den of Thieves will play well with black audiences and will open around $15m.

Nah bruh at this point I don't see why black audiences won't just wait until Black Panther drops. If Proud Mary can't even do $10M for the 3-Day with Taraji still high on the popularity of Empire than no way is Den of Thieves cracking $15M. I know that movie had lackluster marketing, but the marketing for DOT has been no better and reviews will likely be as bad or even worse considering the embargo doesn't lift till Thursday lol. It will be lucky to hit $5-6M IMO.

"Forever My Girl" - somehow not a Nicholas Sparks movie

Hostiles has been moved to January 26.

As for what movie will be #1 this weekend, Jumanji will repeat #1 for the third weekend in a row.

Both of you can be right. Opening to $15m hardly means that the complete "black audience" in the US went to see Den of Thieves, lol. The majority will wait for Black Panther, but some may see Den of Thieves. There is a difference between $15m and $100m+ openings.

Are you saying black audiences can't afford to go to 2 movies? :whaa:

I feel that all the openers will disappoint specially with 12 Strong and Den of Thieves eating into each other.

12 Strong is such a wannabe American Sniper to please the patriotic crowd but it feels like Bin Laden and 9/11 based middle-east stories are something that audience are not much interested, plus Hemsworth hasn't led (m)any movies outside MCU to success. $10m

Den of Thieves - Geostorm looked way more accessible than this and that opened to $13m so I think this isn't hitting double digits and then 12 Strong will take away some of its action audience. $7m

Forever My Girl looks another average YA movie with unknown actors, that's generally a bad formula for these kind of movies and the ones that flop are completely ignored by the audience which I think will be the case here - $2m

Den of Thieves has a 65 on metacritic. I wonder why they held the reviews back. If you have a good movie then flaunt it for as long as possible.

Well, look at the cast. Hardly actors synonymous with respected films. So STX were cautious that the critics would just tear it a new one because they hate Butler, 50 Cent etc.

I am glad it's not flopping. $20m in 7 days is a good enough foundation to make $45m total. For this type of film, that's pretty decent.

$45m would definitely be fricking great.

In MGKC's game there were only 3 who predicted $40m or more for it.

Yes $45m for Den of Thieves and in January with a similar movie like 12 Strong released along with it no less is pretty impressive.
