Jumanji - $250 m + Club
Next weekend has a bunch of R rated movies opening. All the signs are set for a mega breakout on this once the holidays start. I see $300 m +. Who's in?

Eh, Pitch Perfect and Greatest Showman are also PG-13 and PG, respectively. This will probably be the biggest breakout of that batch, but I'm not expecting much more than $175-180 million. Out.

I think this is looking at $200m+. But Star Wars over-delivers and might hurt this a little bit.

Interesting start though I still don't think this will do $250m total. The reviews being solid will only help it going forward.

Re: Jumanji - $250 m + Club
Well $200M+ is looking more likely by the day and with the underperforming of everything else $250M+ might not be completely out of the real possibility either.

Good call, O.
Even with the upcoming competition with Paddington 2 and Peter Rabbit, this club has a much better chance succeeding than last week.

Jumanji had more nostalgia and brand power than most of us thought. Sony won big with this one.

Re: Jumanji - $250 m + Club
Good call. I was very wrong.
I thought The Rock and Kevin Hart had already peaked and didn’t buy into the attractiveness of the remake.

Re: Jumanji - $250 m + Club
I was wrong here too, never expecting it to even gross what it has till this point. Mostly, the trailer didn't look convincing to me at all, but there's some good comedy in there actually for making a winning movie being released at the right time.

Will be close to pass it by beginning of next week.
Fucker might actually pass 300 million. And I was a believer that it would do well of about 150. This is absurd.

As we’ve seen with Sing, Sherlock Holmes, Alvin, etc., being a strong alternative to a big December blockbuster is enough to get big numbers It's kinda weird to consider how much Jack Black has slowed down this decade. He seemed so busy last decade, but this decade his only major wide releases before now have been Gulliver's Travels and Goosebumps. He never really had a big blockbuster comedy like many '00s comedy stars (School of Rock is his biggest live-action star vehicle), but he's been around enough that having him basically play a teen girl was a big plus.

Re: Jumanji - $250 m + Club
Even at his most prolific Black's career has always been a little different than his compatriots. In retrospect, we might think of Shallow Hal as a Jack Black vehicle, but Gwyneth Paltrow was actually billed above him, and the Farrellys were a big name in their own right at the time. Most of his starring efforts were rare mainstream forays for quirky, indie directors. There were probably more parodies of "Jack Black Movies" than there were "Jack Black Movies". It was 2010 he kind of went full on broad studio comedy Starring Jack Black, and they were both huge duds, so it makes sense he kind of retreated.

Black's selectivity gives him the almighty "artistic integrity" card.
